Picture request: OB with front bumper removed
Maybe I'm using the wrong search terms but I can't seem to fnd any shots of an OB ('78 perferred) with the front bumper removed.
I don't suppose the 944 bumper shocks would mount up would they?
I'm not looking to mount a bumper, just my 944 tow bar.
Thanks in advance.

Look at Dean Fuller's thread about repainting his son's car...the SUPER COOL BRIGHT GREEN car that is in the works. There are more than a few pics in that thread with the front bumper cover removed.

Wait, you need it down to the bumper shocks. This one is from 77Tony's repaint thread: Still no aluminum bumper removed, but it gives you a decent idea how far in the shocks are:

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks fellas!
Michael: I'm hoping my flat tow rig will bolt up. My Blazer can't handle the 2000lb U-haul trailer and the '78. I'll be right at the limit...and my truck is too tired for that. I can't afford a new trans at the moment.
Flat tow should work perfect though; the '78 is only a couple hundred pounds heavier than the race car. I'll rip the bumper off and measure the shock mounting holes next time I'm up there. If my 924S welded bumper shocks will fit, it should be simple to flat tow the SOB to my garage for a tedious tear down.

Chris, I am going up there on Wednesday (more than likely). I can remove the bumper and compare/measure the shock mounts to 944/bring back actual measurements.

Stan, thank you for the concern, and the link. Since this '78 is a 5spd, we just need to keep it in neutral. The only warning is for AT vehicles, due to inadequate lubrication. No issues flat towing my 5spd 924S for 3 years now, for at least 2500+ miles now, thank god.
Michael: much appreciated, but only if you have time. Don't waste any time on the '78, with so much that needs to be done with your '80.

I was told a story from a trans rebuilder about towing a manual transmission seems that the trans would only move one set of gears and these were not circulating the oil as it would from having the input shaft do it, this in turn burned up the internal bearing ,
Also was told another story about coasting down a long hill with the trans in neutral this vehicle that was coasting down a hill in neutral had the transmission seize since the input shaft wasnt turning at the speed of the output.
Thats just a few bits of info i have heard, good luck on towing your car
