Default Shock foam/rubber spring, do I need it?

I pulled the first rear spring for a R&R and of course the foam-ish bellows shaped spring that rides on the shock shaft under the protective plastic cover (#7) is falling apart.

Is this a must have? Are they available locally or only thru one of our 928 suppliers?

You should have it and roger stocks them. Just repulled a shock on a GT that this part was gone on. It caused the dust cover to break.

Roger had them a couple weeks ago. I needed to replace my dust covers as well as one was obliterated and the other was cracked top to bottom. Had to get the dust covers from Germany, but the bump stops were in stock.

Oh, you may want to check the other corners. Fronts and Rears have these stops.

Hey Jim, how are your #12s, the big rubber cushions (GTS part number 928 333 043 00)? I put new ones on my car and you're welcome to the old ones if you want them ... they're only 16 yrs old ;-)

Thanks Tom, I will keep the offer in mind.

I only pulled the right rear so far and all other parts look fine. All other rubbers are intact which surprised me.

Actually the one shock I pulled was not leaking and in and out force seems constant and as smooth as the new one so may have still been good. I lucked across the new set of Boges on ebay at half the cost so they are getting changed regardless.
