I have replaced 3 wires on the drivers side on my 87. Now granted the wires on one set were not new and lasted for about a month or more before arching started.
I placed the new wire on two weeks ago and everything was OK for about a week. I moved the wired so they would not contact any metal or rub on anything (Difficult) that helped some. then I replaced the other side with a new one and so far things are OK. I'm thinking of putting some rubber or plastic tubing around the wires because of the tension and placement of the wires.
Not sure the coils are good even though one side was replaced before the wire issues.

I've replaced the originals with the early economy set that was available, and then put on stock Beru's when Rog was running his special.

It's my hope that they will last another 10-15 years.

I'm with you Sean ... for what those Beru's cost, I hope they last for 100k!

I have the original Berus that came with the car when I acquired it - they have 220,000km (about 136,000 miles) and are completely shot - multiple cracks and arcing points. Will be replacing before the car goes on the road.

First thing I do when I get a car is replace the wires, plugs, cap(s) rotors and oil and all filters. I'm pretty sure the originals were on there when I got this car at 200K+ miles and almost 25 years old. I'm thinking this set will last until I sell it, scrap it or am buried in it.

Mine were great when I bought the car almost 14 years ago with 22k on it, Now, with just short of 100k, they still look and perform fine. New Beru set on the shelf, to be installed when I get to the cam cover/intake install sometime hopefully soon. No cracking or other obvious age symptoms, no night-time fireflies under the hood. That said, almost every car I've owned has had new wires at fewer miles. And almost universally, they ran better after the replacement. My early Explorer enjoyed new wires at about 50k intervals, else it would suffer with erratic missing while towing in the summer heat. First time it started, I thought I needed a transmission; new wires were cheaper and easier. A couple 911's were similar, and ate plugs at a fierce rate too.

From the service records I have for my car, the wires caps and rotors were replaced at 150,000 km. That was 4 years and 30k ago. Looks like the wires (Beru) were almost $600 back in '07!!

Original wires on my 86.5, about 95k miles. No known issues, dynoed at around 310 at the crank last summer (before the X pipe)

My original wires were a little stiff - and saw some cracking starting (probably due to bending a bit too much when removing - user haste). Had about 144,000 km on the original wires

I replaced with Magnecor 8.5 mm wires. I drilled out all the wire holders so I could use the original equipment to hold the new thicker wires.

Slightly different cover for the spark plug connectors - need to be more careful about liquid getting down there - not the tight seal as per the original wires. But no problems with these - like the look of the red wires running across.

Cheers
Glenn

Still have the original wires and they seem to be OK.
