Will a steering rack from a 88 s4 fit my 86.5? Thanks in advance.

Yes...you have S-4 suspension so all dimensions are the same

 

Thought so, but i just wanted to be sure. I had a rack come in today but the parts yard that i purchased it from sent me the wrong one. Sent me one for a 944. So that has to go back. I did however find a guy who pulled a rack from a 88 s4 in what he called perfect working condition and from the looks of the pics it looks perfect. I also got it at such a good price, even if its no good i have a core to send out for a refurbed one.

 

Did you get the one on eBay for $74.99? I thought about it myself but never pulled the trigger. If so, good luck with it and like you said, it's worth it just for the core value.
