Default 84 Euro Brake Lights

I have an 84 Euro and the my manual also says that 7 is "not connected". I also did not have brake lights. I put the 8amp fuse in and VOILA! they work...go figure..

Default I have brake lights but error light also

My situation is kinda the same only, I have brake lights but my brake light indicator comes on every time I hit my brake pedal. I just placed a post on this subject then I found this. All my bulbs work and come on as they should but the brake bulb indicatior light comes on as well and I have to keep resetting it.

It only takes a bit of corrosion on the bulbs or sockets, or different wattage bulbs to trigger the bulb failure warning......

'82-'84 cars seem to have the most confusion between the manuals and the actual wiring - and of these the '83 cars seem to actually have two different configurations.

Best bet is to swap to a new set of brake bulbs exactly matched - same manufacturer (best from a dual blister pack). If that doesn't work - clean all the connections - esp bulb holders & grounds.

So much depends on what year car you have. You MUST put the year of your car in EVERY post so we have a clue on what help you need. Read the "New Visitors" thread near the top for more guidance. Consider stepping up to a paid membership so you can build a standard signature line with car and any other profile info you'd like to share. Less than $20/yr, a bargain for 928 owners.

Assuming that you have a '82-'84 diagonal brake circuits car per the OP's questions, here are some things to consider:

-- the brake lights and the dash warning share two pressure switches mounted on the master cylinder. Each switch is connected to one of the chambers in the master cylinder that feeds a pair of calipers. When the pressure on one circuit fails to build while the other does, the brake failure indicator is displayed. When you see that light come on, first consideration must go to the idea that one of your brake circuits has failed.

-- The two switches will trigger the rear brake lights whenever -either- circuit shows pressure.

-- The switches do fail. If all your brakes are working and you still get a brake failure indication, replace -both- switches with a quality matched pair from a reputable source. Be sure to carefully restore the wiring connections as originally configured.

Common to all years:
-- A bulb failure triggers a separate warning. The bulb monitoring unit (called the "lamp control unit" in the circuit diagrams) looks to see that there is current demand through both bulb circuits and that the demand is correct for the bulbs. If you are seeing the stop lamp warning and your bulbs are both working, the first suspect is a corroded bulb socket, followed by corrosion in the tail light harness and connectors. The sensing circuit is particular to having the "correct" bulbs, in matched pairs. If the bulbs you have in there now are working, and the car previously drove without a bulb failure warning, then the bulbs themselves are not the problem now.
