Hey guys,
lots of new paint and restoration projects going around.
For those who went through it, what did you decide to do with the door jamb factory stickers. Especially the one with the VIN.
Can those be duplicated?
Did you mask, or just sand away?
Thanks for the input

Mine were masked when the car was repainted by the previous owner. I "think" only Porsche can duplicate your build stickers at request.

I sold a Boxster once that had paint work on the 1/4 and was missing the vin sticker.....the dealer who bought it had a very hard time getting a replacement from Porsche....very hard time !

According to my "sources", a repair facility can order new replacement stickers for the VIN numbers. I am planning to remove mine prior to painting the GT shell. Here are some links to VIN replacement services. Not sure if the can provide the Porsche VIN decal though as I have not talked to them yet.

If the paint is in good condition within the jamb area and you are just trying to achieve a nice looking exterior paint job, I would recommend masking all of the opening jambs with 3M door aperture soft tape part number 3M.6293. This will provide a "soft edge" for the paint to lay down around these areas and will yield a nice result. Otherwise, it's complete disassembly time and paint everything off the car and do it restoration style which converts to lots of time and big money if your not doing it yourself. I work in this industry professionally, so let me know if you have any specific questions. Good Luck!

Now, the question is: does this sticker need to be accredited, or official. Because, if the only criteria is the accuracy of the information, we could do something much, much better, even including the punched out VIN number. Something more in line with the quality of the car.
Other cars have nice engraved plaques.

Just a guess, but I suspect that manufacturing your own VIN tags, no matter how gorgeous the French seams are, is an invitation for a visit from some unhappy law enforcement types. They would not be swayed by your craftsmanship....
