Default 928 Seat Electrical Q

I did a quick search of the forum but I couldn't find an answer. I apologize in advance, I'm a newbie to Rennlist. Thanks a lot for all your help!

The passenger seat in my 79 928 does something funky. If using the electronic switches to move the seat forward, it will hit a certain point where it moves automatically all the way up. It acts as if physically something is shorting the switch and causing it to function. I tool the seat out and cleaned out the switches but didn't see anything unusual.

I'm experienced with car electrical, and I can probably eventually figure this out on my own, but I thought I'd check with wackos on this site to see if anyone has had a similar problem.

Thanks!

Proud Wacko,

Jeff

Not much to add. Swapping switches, etc. to see if it repeats?? If you cleaned the little ***** and the copper contacts there isn't much more you can do except replace the switch. It's not the most robust design and the copper doesn't spring away from the on position. Odd that it would show on the passenger side when the driver should get more usage. Unless . . .. it's from lack of usage. Still I don't think there is anything else to do.

The cable to the switches may be getting snagged in the track and shorting - causing the same effect. Pop the switch panel out, and swap the switches around ( they are all the same) , see if the problem goes away. If you need one, I have several good used ones on my shelf here in San Diego. LMK.
