Default Vin Decode??? Euro??

Trying to figure out if an '80 that I am buying is a Euro.

The vehicle has been repainted and the tell tale side marker and rear fog light are not there.

Attached is a photo of the vin #. When I run it thru

http://www.928codes.com

it comes back as a Euro with a 4.7 engine.

The writer of 928codes didn't thoroughly research VIN ranges well enough - its wrong on alot of the info it gives out, from the brief play I had with it ages ago.

The car in question is a US MY80 car. (btw - that sticker is a giveaway - only North American cars have it ). VIN lookup confirms it.

Options are:

261 Passenger side mirror - electric - plain
389 Porsche-car radio, CR stereo, type US
401 Light metal wheels
490 Hi-Fi sound system
533 Alarm system
900 Tourist delivery

Hilton,

Thanks for the quick response. I take it that with the 900 option code that the car was probably delivered in Europe which might explain the error in the 928codes list.

It was delived at factory but 928codes makes same mistake regardless of any option codes.

Joe--I will ask Ed if he knows any more history on the car (before him) but I'm quite sure it's a USA model. I have never seen that sticker in a non-USA model.

There is no question about it. Its US model. Number 1 says so, 92A0810417. ROW 4.5L would be 92A0800417 and 4.7L S would be 92A0840417 (S can be 92A0820417 but in any case it has different number than 4.5L ROW). All three are different cars made different times during '80 MY.

Congratulations on this purchase.
It looks like a GREAT car from these pictures and descriptions!
Nothing beats this type of transaction with the car going from one enthusiast to another.

Oh, and how about a show of hands on who thinks that's a dream garage! Wow.
