The **** doesn't screw off. The plastic round center cap pops off (use a knife or small pick) and there is a screw under it. Remove the screw and the **** pulls off of a square shaft. Don't know the size of the screw - sorry.

I guess a picture is worth a thousand words. To help clarify my question. I am talking about the small **** that goes up and down when the door is locked either from the inside or out. When you remove the plastic **** their is a brass like screw underneath. I need to know the actual thread size. (pitch and size)

You may just have to take your botton down and match to a screw at the hardware store?
