Default 928 Precursor?

Not quite But the similarities have been mentioned here before, and this is the rare V8 model.

It was a landmark application for the alloy.

My mom actually had the Buick version in the mid eighties. So not transaxel. But it was a very nice, show quality white 4 speed convertible with the 11:1 compression engine. It was a blast, I got to use it as my college car for a semester while we were trying to sell it. Yes, kind of ugly, but so ugly it was cute. A few years earlier a buddy and I bought a couple orf roller F85s to part out. I was very tempted to keep one of the engines and put it in my Opel GT.

The Pontiac example does point out that there was little new or innovative about the design of the 928. It was a big change for Porsche but that is another story.

Years before the 928,
The Reynolds 390 all alloy (no cylinder liners)
block was first used in 1970 in the McLaren M8D
at Laguna Seca . Denny Hulme won.

Ferdinand, designed by, and named after the good doctor, made it's debut at the Kursk track,(1943) not very agile or fast, most did not finish.
(928 Fastback design starting to take shape)

This was the mockup that solidified the 928 Electrical design however.

Another design from dr. Porsche, (judging by the style of leisurewear, this one is in the hands of the second owners)
Original steel panels less susceptable to panel damage but huge weight disadvantage, good handling on a wet surface.
Oversize front parking sensor has been known to cause excessive damage to other vehicles. Tow hook not prone to fail.
