Default Santa Barbara Cars & Coffee on Sunday, then to "The Hanger"

The recently launched Cars & Coffee Santa Barbara is going well and growing, and I'm hoping to get some sharks to show up this Sunday. It's from 8-10am and afterwards we are heading over to "The Hanger", which is a climate controlled vehicle storage facility, with service bays, and apparently you can rent office space there as well.

Here's where C&C is:

If you're on Facebook, C&C SB has a page here:

Here's info on the Hanger:

How often does this take place? I hope to visit SB on one of the upcoming weekends, but not sure which one. I might be able to include it in my plans once they shape-up.

Every Sunday morning unless the roads are wet (our definition of "bad weather").

If I zoom out I can see my house a mere 75 minutes away...

Might see you in a few weeks. I'll post back here in case others want to join a drive from the east end of the SFV.

Easy stuff--

1) Plow the snow out of the parking lot at the local coffee place. (They will love for doing that for them...)

2) Find folks who are willing to un-mothball their cars for the day.

3) Carefully drive to the coffee place, avoiding snow, puddles, salt and road crud.

4) Meet with the others who have done the same. Complain about the cold, the snow, the puddles, the salt and the road crud.

5) Arrange to do it again next week...

6) Carefully drive from the coffee place, avoiding snow, puddles, salt and road crud.

7) Endure criticism from SO about spending time with car buds while SO is stuck at home, since there's too much cold, snow, puddles, salt and road crud to go do anything.

I won't bother telling you about Option C or Option F in the winter. Option C doesn't include a football team, at least not in the middle area. Although we do make more cheese... Option F has all those white-haired wackos running around in shorts and white shoes. Like hunched-over Q-tips.

Stuck in Pittsburgh so I can't be too critical right now...

Great event today, there must have been 30 cars, a high for this 3 month old event. Parking was a problem. The highlight was visiting The Hanger afterwards though. They don't allow photos because it's a security risk, but I'll try and describe it.

First, I mentioned that there were service bays. That's incorrect, unfortunately. I must have confused that with their willingness to allow authorized mechanics to come in and do light duty maintenance on the vehicles at the owner's request.

But what a facility! It's about 3 basketball courts in size. The ideal is to have the "ultimate man-cave", with vehicle storage, a social club and office space in one. Everything is top notch quality. As you walk in, on the left there is a rec area with ping pong, pool table, poker table and bookshelf library. On the right is a lounge area with flat screen TV and Xbox. Beyond this small lounge area is a larger lounge area with multiple couches, arm chairs, dining tables and a fully stocked honor bar. Beyond that is a glass enclosed board/conference room, big screen TV included. Beyond that is a large size slot car race track. Not sure of the size designation, but the cars were about 6 inches long, and the track area was about 30'x15'. The remainder of the floor space was occupied by some very high end vehicles. Sorry, no 928s.

The office space was above, not really a whole floor, more like they were hung around 2 sides of the building at 2nd floor height. There were about a dozen offices plus a corner conference room. Each was about 10'x20', fully furnished with phone, internet and power included. Most of the offices were rented, but two were available, they cost $1750 per month.

Beyond the office space rent (which isn't tied to vehicle ownership), the business model is combined storage and social club. Vehicle space is $750 per month, club membership only is $500 per month.

Beyond how cool this place is, the entrepreneur in me was thinking what a great business plan this is. I tallied up in my head that they were already at 30k per month revenue and they've only been officially open since September. Haven't looked at the costs though...

Sounds like fun - too bad about the photo rule.
