Did A/C linkage adjustment this summer, now too cold...
Hi folks,
During all my A/C work last summer, one of the adjustments I did was the one where you tighten up the blend flap linkages to make up for disintegrated foam. That seemed to help excess heat when the A/C was off and weather was hot.
However, now, in the winter time, I'm noticing cold air coming through when the heat is on. On the side vents there's more heat, and in the center vent there's more cold. When I did the adjustment for the linkage under the drivers' side, I had to go all the way to the end of the linkage's range, and there was still a little play. I'm thinking that that was really too much and is not allowing the cold air side to be closed anymore.
Thoughts on this? Any suggestions for a good balance?
On a related note: has anyone done the work to install new foam? If so, how bad a job was that?
Thanks,
Paul

I now see that there are two, not-quite-in-agreement, procedures for this adjustment.
The one I did was John Pirtle's, here: http://members.rennlist.com/pirtle/svc_ac.html
The other one is Wally's, here: http://www.928gt.com/t-wallyhvac.aspx
The difference is that John tells you to adjust the linkage at the motor separately from the linkage on the right side. Wally tells you to disconnect the motor linkage, then adjust the right side linkage, and then adjust the left side linkage.
By doing the two adjustments separately, rather than having them both loosened/disconnected at the same time, did I end up with an incorrect adjustment?

OK. I adjusted the mixer arm a few turns back... will see how things are, heat-wise, tomorrow morning.
One note: although my garage is insulated and heated, it was about 60 degrees F in there when I was doing this adjustment. I found I had to get my daughter to hold a hair dryer aimed at the cabin temp sensor in order to get the arm to come all the way down so I could disconnect it. In summer, when most people are messing with this linkage, I guess this is not a problem.
Seems like what might be needed is a slightly longer than stock plastic arm to make up for the lost foam at both ends of travel....? Roger?
