There are some pretty good stuff there, cool.

What can you tell us about polishers?
I have been looking at the Porter-Cable and what ever that one is that has two heads.

I have a big yellow Makita variable speed one, and a couple of Autozone ones, a 6 and a ten inch RA.

The big one scares me, afraid I will burn through the paint, and the RA's are really not up to getting the scratches out that the damn cat left.

Suggestions?

Phillip--

I have a PC 7424 (I actually use it for woodwork/sanding) and need a kit of backing plate and pads. Nothing harsher than a fine-cut polish has been needed so far. Please put together a recommended package of pieces, and maybe your recommended products for me. Black 928 has all original paint, single-stage black. PM or post recs here, and I'll get with you on shipping details.

I've been doing it all pretty much by hand. Seems a shame to have the PC in the cabinet not pulling its weight.

I also have a 7424. I have some of the Menzerna micropolish but have been using Griot's orange pads for polishing. Whatever Bob buys, I will buy for my black '90 which has been somewhat neglected and could use correction of light to moderate scratches....

here you go guys.

5 inch backing plate.

Uber 5.5 inch pads.

I would go with

Blue Pads - Final Polish with Super Finish
Green Pads - Super Intensive Polish
Black pad - for liquid wax or sealants

Several years ago at a Devek Days event, there was an excellent detailer showing some of his work. His principal client base seemed to be the guys with red Italian cars. That alone isn't a qualification, but after watching him for an hour I was sold on his capabilities. But I don't live in the area so didn't grab his contact info.

Somebody there in the area must still have the name/contact info. Bueller? Bueller?

Finallly got the time to place the order for the pads and backing plate. Good News is that the "Winter" discount code still worked today.

I'll post results when I get back and have a chance to use the tools again.

Rob--

FYI-- I stretched the vendor rec a bit and got the 6" backing and 6.5 bonnets. No chems though. I have a couple large drawers full of stuff, but I may still go look at the extra-fine polish that Phillip recommended.

I already had the Menzerna Micro polish, which was great on the GTS, but the GT has a lot more significant swirling on it, so I ordered some Super Intensive (PO83) polish and a 5 pack of pads (green/green/orange/blue/black). Hopefully that should be sufficiently aggressive for what needs to be done to it.

We still need to have that paint chip clinic. I more or less destroyed the hood of the GTS on that New Years Day run I went on...
