Default Engine lock

Hi, my water pump recently failed so I'm in the process of replacing it with a new water pump, the ones with the plastic impeller. Thanks to Roger Tyson for shipping it very quickly. I have tried to remove the water pump without removing the damper pulley, but it seems like the last two bolts underneath aren't going to come out with it in place. Is there any chance someone living near by (Lake Placid, FL) could loan me an engine lock tool? I know its a lot to ask for but I need to fix it asap, and would rather not pay for a new tool. Unless someone knows an alternative to remove the bolt holding the pulleys in place... I've tried putting it in fifth gear w/ parking brake on but it doesn't seem to be giving me enough hold to remove. The crank turned about 30 deg from the force from trying.

Thanks

Kyle

Since it's a 5-speed, put it in 5th gear, set the parking brake (or set the car on the ground) and go at it. I used this method before I got the tool. Should work.

+1. This has worked for me in the past too. However, some have said that it does not work for them because the crank bolt was so overtightened that they wound up all the slack in the drivetrain and ran out of room without breaking the bolt loose.

OK, I'll try again pushing it a little farther, but it seems pretty tight on there as it is doing just as Dan in the post above said.

By going so far as to run out of room is a lot more than 30 degrees, so keep trying and make sure you brace yourself and protect the fenders.
