I did look at the JL amps. I wasnt really happy with the power output in this application (sub is a dual 4ohm VC so it can be run as either 2 or 8ohm, neither of which are the XD series cup of tea). The HD900/5 could have worked, but its several times more expensive than the Kenwood. The Kenwood does have a fan, but it is thermally activated. I also have a fan in the mounting board which exhausts the cavity made by the enclosure.

I am not trying to be defensive on my design, and insist that the components I used are the absolute best, but they really were the only ones that would fit together at the same time. Installing something like a 8 or 10" driver would have been a much simpler and more flexible task - but whats the fun in that.

I guess I don't go as loud as you guys. So for me I just have a mono amp running the sub and the speakers off the head unit. I have a JL 12 now and a Rockford 500 that has a very small footprint so it looks like it would work with your box as is. I will check the link you provided when I get to a computer.

Here are some pictured of the finished parts. These came from the same mold as shown on the first page of the thread, but have the seems cleaned up, and are coated in black primer on top, and truckbed liner on the sides. I will make a complete version of the concept later in the week after I ship out harnesses from the window switch project. I just wanted to share these, I am proud of the project, and think they look really good.

Thanks
Hans

Here is my spare tire delete. Carpet matches better in person I think the flash washed it out a little.
Hard to see in the pictures I took but it clamps down in the back to keep safe and I can remove the whole set up and be back to stock in 5 minutes.

Hans,
I really like your piece and is what I wanted to do but threw this together in about 2 hours with beer time. I'm looking forward to seeing the information you post later.

If you do that, the tire should be strapped down. Last thing you want in a accident is a tire to fly throught the cabin.

That is awesome. I attempted to do the same, but without enclosing. Not a great sound. Bass, but not good full bass.

I purchased the Infinity Kappa Five, the Crutchfield reference series, kinda compact. I wonder if it would work with your design?

I was at the CNC shop yesterday, and cut out the mounting boards for the final version of this project. They use the same marine grade HDPE (King Starboard) as what is shown in the pictures from the first post, however the file has been tweaked a bit for better fit, countersunk fasteners and enlarged intake vents. At this time, I have raw materials and components to build 4 of these systems. The CNC file has been finalized (unless someone need a custom board for any reason), and the fiberglass mold is finished, so any future units can be produced in less than a week lead time. I do have four of the 12" subwoofers for these units available - they are the last four available anywhere. The designer of the subwoofer is making a new revision of the driver which will not be available until early summer. These four drivers will be made available shortly, however I also have a replacement 10" driver available which works in the same size enclosure and is about half the price of the 12":

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=295-134

Several other 10" drivers will also work, including one from Tang Band and another from SB Acoustics (there may be other options out there, if you have a shallow mounting driver that requires around 0.6cuft of airspace, this enclosure will work).

I have ordered the last of the materials to get these assembled, down to fasteners and gasket/isolation foam. Expect a new thread with official product announcement from a Rennlist Sponsor soon.

Thanks
Hans

Are you going to sell this just as a loaded box or can I just purchase the box empty?

Empty will be available shortly. I would like to find homes for the subwoofers I have on hand first.
That shouldnt be hard, giving that the Stereo Integrity BM MKIII are some of the most sought after subwoofers on the market today. However, I am only going to make the ones I have available to 928 owners.

An empty configuration would include the fiberglass enclosure mounted to the HDPE board, fan grill, and speaker grill. Optionally available would be the amplifier mounting kit with fan, subwoofer, and subwoofer adapter plates (cut to fit inside the fiberglass enclosure, but solid for use with any 8" or 10" subwoofer compatible with the fixed air volume and depth - to be cut by the customer.)

The HDPE material is water, chemical, and UV resistant, it will last forever, but has material working properties similar to plywood, it can be easily sanded and cut with standard hand tools.

Thanks,
Hans
