Default flappy valve not hooked up

If I researched it right I believe my flappy valve is an open vaccum junction. I found a small vaccum line that had a screw plugging it. It comes frome a electrical connection at the front of the engine. I believe what happened is the last garage that had the intake off, never put it back on. More likely they just forgot it and then when everything was back together they did not want to tear it back apart. Looks like this work was done at about 90K miles, car now has 110K. This is on a 87 S4 5 speed. My big question is, if I have this diognosed correctly is there any humanly way possible to get it hooked up without taking the intake off. A helpfull guy at 928srus did not think so. I looked at it and the only way might be to take the air cleaner off and do it from the back. Any chance? It sounds like this is major limit in HP from what I learned. I will be doing a intake refresh on the car but was hoping to do other things first, namely the front end service.

I never got around to doing this..but I -bet-...you could do this with a long set of forceps...and a boreoscope (camera) to guide you. If the rubber elbow is on the valve..the hardline should to in easy enough..if not..the whole thing with elbow..should slip on easy enough.

Be a two-man job, but I bet you could do it..just need a way to see in there with some long grabbers...or something with a bend from the side.

No way you could with a hand alone.

I have been theorizing for the last few hours. Here is one idea I came up with. I was thinking of using a boreoscope to see as you mentioned. My theory involves getting a hard steel line from the hardware store to use as the vaccum line. I would fit the rubber connector to the rigid steel line and push on from outside the intake. The hard steel line with the original end would get me by untill the intake resfresh. I would like to save that project for next winter after getting the TB WP in order this spring. One thing I need to know is, at what direction does the plastic male fitting face? My guess is it will point to about the passenger headlight, that is sure just a guess but am I close?

Just leave it until you're ready to take the intake off. You have bigger fish to fry than this, and a non-working flappy causes no harm, just a lack of torque in the mid-range.

Instead, spend the time pulling out the CE panel, cleaning all the fuse and relay contacts, and then cleaning the grounds on the vehicle.

Thanks Hilton, Those projects are on the agenda very soon. I will not be able to get really greasy untill this spring, so I am trying to sort out some of this simple stuff while its in the current location. I will be putting the dremel wire brush on this weekend looking for grounds. I have started reconditiong all the leather and rubber to find out what is salvageble. The right side door stripping is in poor shape but most of it is cleaning up well. The seats are looking very good. I really like Lexol as a care product, it seems to really go deep in the leather.
