Default Anyone purchase the Escort iQ yet

Looking for feeback from owners. Looks like a cool device. Nice to have GPS and radar in one unit, but is the radar as good as the V1?

Interesting. $650 sounds steep (?). The GPS shots looks very old skool- and not in a good way.

It's missing a most important (in Los Angeles anyway...) feature-- traffic alerts and rerouting.

Looks like poorly executed product.

It is getting rather poor reviews by the folks that really know detectors over at the detector forum.

You can find threads here.

On a somewhat related note, I recently started using an Escort 9500ix and while it doesn't false as much as the valentine, I really miss the arrows. I do however, love the GPS feature (even if it takes 3-4 minutes to activate).

Right now if I had to choose, I'd take the 9500, but I still love the valentine.

Mike Valentines patent on the arrows runs out next month I think.
My 9500ci has arrows, I wonder it it will be a simple software upgrade to make them function in the detector mode.

One of the V1 guys said something the other day that shocked me, he said there has not been a upgrade on the V1 since 2002.

but yea, the GPS based detectors are great.

I noticed it has that (arrows) too when pointing out speedtraps. If it does... that will be great!

Before I bought the 9500xi, I called Valentine Research to see if they were planning any new detectors or upgrades soon. They said no.

I had the 9500ix before I got the Ci, and the V1 before that, strange how quite it is and how it will shock you when it does go off.
It is a good unit.

I was just looking at these yesterday and wondering how they would be...don't mind the old school nav, and if the radar detection is good I'll probably get one for my 88. I have a V1 in my DD, 94 (with the remote display in the ash tray!) and the 92...

Look forward to reading more about these and seeing if in fact Valentine does not come upmwith something better than what he currently has out...I am betting he has something wait g in the wings for the day the arrow patent expires!

Took a quick glance at it on Wednesday night at a press event before CES began here in Las Vegas. Was not very impressed at all...

Mike V is a member of my local OVR PCA. his Carrara GT is one of the few cars I enjoy passing me on the track, to hear the shreik of that V10. he also has a new Panamera turbo and think a Lambo Superleggra.

unless he is still sitting on a pile of cash, he'd better get back into the lab and raise the detector bar again so he can afford to maintain his stable. and from overhearing conversations at the track, he likes very nice wines.... especially when he is in Paris.

Thanks, everyone. I still like my V1...always dependable and I'm perfectly ok with a couple its false alarms. Did't realize that the V1 patent was expiring next month. Guess I'll wait and see if Mike V ahs any new tricks up his sleeve.

The Escort iQ looks like the future of radar detectors.

If it is all software driven and has separate front and rear radar detection antenna, then it would only take a software update to make is show directional arrows in the display. Sounds like from the spec's this is all true.

Also, changing the enclosure to look like a standard GPS unit is great for those in states that ban radar detectors.

I would expect, over time, this type of unit to replace their current range of radar detectors.

But, surely...don't you think?...that Valentine must have something up their sleeve for a better product? I've noticed also that they've not really changed anything in ages.
