Default 85 Euro 5-sp LSD for sale in St. Paul

No affiliation; I looked at this car that is listed on Cars.com but decided to focus on Automatic S4s (still looking for a Green or Blue one with champagne interior!).

http://www.cars.com/for-sale/searchr...MENT&pgId=2102

Hope I'm not breaking any taboos; I told the owner - good guy - that I'd list some details here. PM me for his name and contact info, or just follow the Cars.com contact process.

He sent me receipts for 9K of work done in '08, '09 including TB/WP, Mass Air, Temp II, Crank Sensor, belts, Tstat, oil cooler lines, fuel filter, throttle valve switch.

The VIN (WP0ZZZ92ZFS840111) indicates that it came with the 5-speed, LSD and Option 385 - forged light weight wheels.

The interior looked great from the photos. The roughest part of the car seemed to be the body, which has a small dent near the filler cap, broken spoiler, and miscellaneous chips, etc.

He sent me almost 20 photos, including these two.

Looks like S4 wheels and like he has the back wheel on the front and vice versa...at least on the drivers side...

Decent looking car...

Interesting - (no rear fog light- so new bumper either during fed process or some other reason), (no fuel mileage guage in cluster), (is redline correct, missing a white marker?), is front spoiler bent or bad pic? Plus an 86 US rear brake light.

Normally I would say a low mileage 85 euro would be the best car you could buy, but this 1 does need some investigating. And still might be the best available right now.

85 16V models definitely didn't have the fuel consumption gauge (IIRC only '82 got it).

Fog light is country specific - whether it had them originally depends where this car was sold to.

RPM gauge varies between auto's and manuals - I can't be bothered to find a pic of a 16V '85 tacho, but the one shown is the same as the 5-speed '84 16V "Euro" model with the exact same engine and fuel injection as this car.

Looks like a great example to me, especially as its in an unusual exterior/interior colour combo.

edit: Looked at older thread - pics could be very misleading in this ad?

I spoke the owner when I was looking for mine last year. He had been out of work for a while. he hated selling it. I told him the offer I would make he wouldn't like. HE said try me. Then the black pearl came to me. I have the carfax. Tried to upload the pdf but I don't see it

Judging by the price, he's in no hurry to sell.

I think he had it on ebay for less when I was dealing with him. That was last June

It seems like the missing fog light was explained in the older thread -- I have seen Euro's with 2 foglights but not any w/o a foglight from the factory. Which countries received the LH euro w/o foglights??

Also from that thread;

Rich

My euro also has the fuel guage, which countries did not get a fuel guage in the 85 LH euro? (excluding chopped up grey market ones)

Regarding the guages, maybe the whole instrument cluster was swapped out during federalization for a US model. My 84 16V Euro has the Fuel Mileage guage. Also, notice the different graphics on the fuel, volt, and temp guages, as well as the different location for the turn signal indicator. Brad's (tilac999) 85 Euro guage cluster is exactly like mine.

Mine, folowed by car in Ad:

Agreed.
Can you believe $9K in work (I'm not sure I do) and not one of the dopes that touched that car knew the front wheels from the rear? It's so damn obvious, too. Scary.

Disagree....someone's been driving it backwards for who knows how long.

To be honest...this car speaks to me.

It says...(Fat Bastard voice) "I'll EAT YOUR MONEY!"

Here's the back end of an Aussie '84 (LH 2.2 16V)

Here's an '85 Aussie car (LH 2.2 16V):

I've seen European 928's also without the vacuum "economy" gauge - a quick search of ads somewhere like Pistonheads in the UK will show more examples including some LHD ones.

Also, mine has the rear fog switch in the pod, but no rear fog in the bumper cover, and I have yet to find any wiring for one back there. 85 Euros also have the timig belt tension warning system (even tho still 16V engine) while the 84 Euro lacks that feature (same engine for 84 - 86 Euros - 4.7L with LH/EZF, 310hp). And, ABS became available on 85 Euros, while N/A on the 84 Euros (AFAIK). In my opinion, the 85/86 Euros are the best of the 16V breed.

Intersting - this may indicate that the advertised car was originally an Aussie spec car....same guage graphics and turn signal indicator location. I assume that Aussie car has no rear fog light switch on the pod? Makes me wonder where the trip ODO resut button is....

My 84 is a German spec car, as is Brad's 85.
