Default Driving Impressions....82 automatic

So today I was driving Simons 1982 USA automatic home from the shop that did extensive work, which is about a 45 mile drive, mostly freeway....

Since the only 928 I own is a racecar which isn't driven on the street, it has been about 18 months since I drove a 928 on the street....the last being my old 88 automatic I sold in July 09....

1st impressions......I REALLY like the 2.75 top gear on the freeway....the car has bone stock exhaust and is extremely quiet inside....but oddly sounds pretty beefy when outside....a nice combo really....compared to my previous S4 with the 2.20 top gear the 2.75 was much more peppy on the freeway.....it did NOT feel like it was 80hp down on an S4....cruising along at say 70mph....give it say 1/2 throttle and it picked up speed quickly and effortlessly.....I remember the S4 almost bogged down in similar situations.....so typically the S4 would kick down...which I did set it up to do...but the 2.75 is just low enough to pick up nicely without a kickdown...which does make highway cruising seem much smoother and more effortless compared to the S4... Its also tall enough that sustained cruising at 80mph isn't annoying either....being super quiet helps too

One other aspect of the 2.75 top gear is in town.....once again its low enough to have pickup at say 45 mph..but not bog down like the 2.20 can occasionally in town...

Do you think there is hidden value in these early automatic cars?
Its good to know that good highway performance is there.

I do not doubt that for a second and can not even imagine the cost to keep one of these cars in the top of the pack.

Have we learned nothing from the one thousand and some pages from Mark Kibort??????????

Gearing makes no difference at all once you get out of first gear.

I kid, i kid, but Mark will be along shortly with some twisted reasons why it all must be in your head. roflmao

84 with 2.53 is a nice combo. Non LSD. Will kick the rear end out substantially on a 1-2 redline shift.

I saw a 79 (I think that was the year model) that only had Euro cams and a bit of exhaust work done on it pull from a GTS at a 60 MPH roll, and it pulled on him to a very high speed.

I am still shocked about that one.

one thing about Mark K, he never gets mad, or gets in the gutter calling names and such.
I like Mark K.

the other thing is, you are not going to change his mind, only he can do that.
