Interesting thread!

When we made up our minds to go forward with our products, we put in some ground rules that we would not chase the cheaper segment but rather offer products that were made in the USA and were a great value for the money. We wanted to make a product that could be placed up against it's equivalent from Porsche and be considered as good as, if not better than, the Porsche part.

Along the way we were contacted by a few who suggested to go overseas to get a lower price point on our products. We were not interested and still have the products made by the same company in the U.S. We are proud to support our U.S. based business partners and this current U.S. economic crisis drove that point home.

I am sure that others from different countries feel the same way about supporting their own country based businesses.

Cheers,

This explains [not] why there is a Michigan City, Indiana, which is actually closer to Illinois than Michigan.

Also bought some interior parts for my VW GTI specifically from a vendor in Michigan instead of all the other overseas vendors on eBay. I was surprised when I got a shipment notification from Hong Kong.

You just can't when unless you have it in your hands for inspection BEFORE you turn over the money.

My OEM fuel pump at 46k miles is already on its way out. I am searching the forum for a superior alternative. I pretty much want to replace everything broken with something else other than Porsche OEM if there are better parts. What fuel pump did you buy? I am thinking about using Walbro which has gained a lot of excellent reviews in other forums.

I bought mine from Sunset Porsche in Oregon, which gets most of its "Genuine Porsche" parts from Germany (hopefully not rebranded Chinese) and two others from the "Big Three". Upfront, I install new fuel pumps, water pumps, rollers, belts, ignition switches, important relays, and fuel hoses on all the Porsches I buy. So far, knock on wood, I've had no problems.

Where's Walbro made? Or perhaps better put, where do we think Walbro is made?

There is no such thing as a Chinese Consumer Protection Agency that should tell you something in itself. If you knowingly buy a Chinese or known inferior part to save a few dollars you are doing your countrymen and yourself a disfavor. And when your $10k motor blows due to a $50-100 savings, don't expect us to shed a tear.
A few 948 swappers are using this fuel pump as it is a direct bolt-up, Not sure about 928 fittings, but it may work.....HTH

Those look like Chinese pumps.
"TREperformance has been manufacturing our own 255 LPH fuel pumps"
That should mean that they have a damn factory and manufacturer them like they just said they did. Where the hell you think they are getting pumps that they can make money selling for $89?

The bigger problem is the trend, I feel. At some point, one will not be able to buy any parts that are not made in China or some third world cheap labor country. It's a matter of economics. Daily, factories in the USA are being dismantled and the factory equipment moved to China and other places because production is cheaper and people want cheaper prices. When Chinese quality gets really good...and expensive...then the system will move to making stuff in Africa or some place. The "Made in Japan" saga all over again.

How many of you are buying Laso waterpumps rather than Genuine Porsche waterpumps? At some point either or both of these may become PorchChinAso waterpumps.

I sent a PM to the guy that suggested that FP to ask him about the packaging. Don't kid yourself, barring I-phone assemblage and quasi-GM metro gas sipper knock-offs, even the majority of your drugs are manufactured over there. It is only up to the company to self-regulate. If you know of a friend or neighbor that has lost a pet due to sudden renal failure or liver cirrhosis, then their pet food has been spiked by Chinese grade "Protein filler"

Hey Dawg, a 928 guy wants to know about that TRE performance fuel pump you posted a link to. Where is it made? USA? I would think that it would bolt right up to the 928 as well. How's the 90 Cab coming? Later, Rob

Dawg:
Bolted right up on the 944. The pump does not say if it's made in the USA or not. He can call them and ask about the 928 application. They were helpful when I bought mine.

Why not? They made Viagra clones...and colored the pills with blue house paint. I'm not kidding. Don't know if anyone is still checking though. Hard subject.

Counterfeiters can duplicate some of the most sophisiticated packaging containing the newest covert print and materials techniques. Chinese companies have been a big contributer to the problem. For certain expensive consumer products staffs of ex-fed officers work worldwide in conjuction with governments who loose tax revenue from the goods moving outside of normal circles.

Drug packaging is being remade with serious countermeasures that exceed techniques used in paper currency, including DNA traceable ink components. Star Wars stuff.

Big issue for pharma right now, concurrent with both Chinese and Western investment in legitimate pharma capacity. Then entire industrialized world is becoming involved in pharma manufacture. Countries consider it a critical national capacity need. Lots of movement right now in this whole area.

Aircraft parts are another huge counterfeit problem.

Not sure where 80's car parts fit on the enforcement continuum.
