997TT's are WICKED and will RUIN you for ANY other "fast" car! The way we can "race" on the streets in this country there are VERY FEW cars that can keep up with a 997TT and I doubt ANY that can surpass it. Well, you are not likely to roll up next to a Veyron anyway... In fact as I thought about my previous post the only car I could come up with as a used car I would even be willing to trade up to would be an '02 or newer 911TT!! Of course you can even find DECENT '02 TT's for less than a VERY NICE GTS these days! That is pretty amazing frankly...it is one of the FEW cars I put up there with my GTS's and in many cases the GTS's are a better tool for the job at hand than a 996TT even!

The very same things which made 1979-1980 car worth a few thousand dollars ten years ago applies to 1989-1990 cars TODAY. The ravages of time sadly means that the dashes crack, the paint fades ,the rubber dries out and the car needs lots of love. And being a "rare" car often means few people wished to buy one when it was NEW ! Porsche had a capacity in excess of 5,000 928s per year......they old were able to sell a bit over 60,000 units not the 85,000 they COULD have made.

Here is an updated version of our situation or in other words if the internet had existed in the 1980's the 928 board would have been having this discussion;

Most sensible comment at the very end:
"I was aware of depreciation being an issue as other models have dropped as well....but for ME personally-I did not care.....the car was what I wanted. I make investments in real estate and the stock market, not in my cars."

Hi
Not sure if it helps for the US but in the UK there were something like 4100 originally and last year around 1900 were MOT`ed (national roadworthy test)
That test does not count any stored and off road.
So I dont think the 50% figure still surviving is that far out.....
All the best Brett

I was in london for the past two weeks- Just arrive Brunei yesterday.
Was walking around London- Saw a Midnight blue GTS parking around Bayswater area. The only 928 I see in London during my visit.

Reviving a Frankenstein thread LOL.
A thought occurred while reading however,
I wonder if our vendors might actually have the best idea of how many 928s are 'out there'....
Given that they do need love and feeding to stay on the road....
Any comments?
Dan

There is a huge problem on the horizon with the new cars, especially the wannabe clones put out by Ford, Chevy and Dodge.... I told my son " why pay 25-30K for a retro clone when you can take that same money and buy the real thing that will continue to go up in value vs. going down in value the minuet you sign the contract.
You cannot work on the new cars without a 75k computer analyzer and degree. On top of that, in ten years or less the electronics's will start having issues and in 20, these cars will be worthless due to the fact that no one will be able to work on them.
At least with vintage cars from our era, you can open the hood and get your hands dirty...
The only caveat is that in 20 years most of us that can work on the old cars will be dead or in care homes...

Here in the UK there are 831 982s registered on the road out of a total of 4292 originally sold. There will be some unregistered cars as well. I forgot to pay my road tax so add 1. Must get on it before I gat another fine.

You may be right on the computer issue, with all the advances in tech, there may be a hand held analyzer for 50.00 selling at Harbor Freight in 20 years....
