Has anyone successfully used wider tires than this on a stock 928 with an 18 x 10.5 ET60 rear wheel?

in front i have 205/50/17 michelin
at rear i have 255/40/17 bridgestone
i have absolutely no grip on snow and ice. but dry they are great. i think its a summerset, i bought them second hand.
its the cheapest way to have wheels that fit,,find some boxterwheels and go.
and the quality of those stock porsche wheels are high,
