Ask Chris about 19" wheels on S4's...he had them but maybe it is just the road in CA, but he didn't care for them. Now he has my 17" FM10's and is in love! I think 18" is probably the perfect sporty yet reasonably comfortable compromise. Plus even GTS brakes will look small behind 19" wheels!
Get them Jarrod, you KNOW YOU NEED THEM! Heck, it's Christmas time...just look at it as a present to yourself, you know NO ONE ELSE is going to get you anything that nice! ;->
BTW, there is a set of these in the D/FW area that are probably a little more scuffed up (but probably not much) that have tires mounted (though the fronts are probably only 30% remain, 50% left on rears) that you can probably get for about the same money and then you could drive down for a GTG and not have to pay shipping either... Just a thought!

I agree..19's, because they command such a THIN tire, are asking for a rougher ride, and on less than perfect roads (and many times you dont get a choice in what to drive over) bent metal.

I think he's looking at that wrong, the fact that "Fronts of rims contain raised factory lettering indicating "8" and "57"" designate them as an 8" wheel with et57.
I've never seen these wheels with anything but a et57 in the 8" size.

Yes, maybe the fronts are 57mm offset, but under the 'two front wheels' heading it states that the rear of the spokes are stamped 'ET37'. But then again under this same front wheel heading it refers to '10J' as well. All a bit confusing. Worth clarifying before buying, I reckon. But anyway, 57mm offsets will not drive as well as original 65mm S4 offsets, in my opinion.

I seem to be detecting a trend Seriously, if they had PS2's or comparable rubber I'd be all over them. As it is, I'd have to put another thou in rubber and that would drive the total to over 2 grand....BTDT

Corrected stamping information.
Gents,
Thank you for pointing out the typo! I corrected to what the wheels say.
I just went by the storage unit, today, where I have these, but before I saw these e-mails. I will go by there tomorrow (if possible) and measure the darn things. It was also confusing for me to see that the stamp on the rear of the spokes seem to say "37", yet the front clearly has a raised "57". I looked hard, trying to see if that was really a 3 or a 5, but it looks like a 3 to me. I put everything down because I wasn't sure why it might be that way, and was hoping someone might know. (Me thinks the stamping guys are sourced from a different work "pool" if ya know what I mean, or maybe they just play by different rules - I've seen other wierdness on back spoke stampings.) Either way, I will measure them!!
Edit: I just added some cropped sections from my high resolution pictures, so you see what I see. I also noticed the rear lettering is also raised, so will re-word the ad accordingly. Still....I will measure!
Edit 2: Measured via crude methods, see below - came up with 59.5 mm ET.
James, yes, that was me at the 2009 OCIC with the silver car. You were talking to me right before the concourse judging, advising me to give the car a more driven, road-splattered look, because the concourse judges really go for that, or something along those lines..
One of my "modifications" to the silver car, formerly Brian Flemings, who I have to give all the credit to for it's fantastic condition, was to replace these Carrera III wheels with 944 Turbo Phone Dials - I just love the look of the Phone Dials.

These Carrera III's with 235's or 245's drive 100% better than any original wheel with 215 or 225 sixteen inch rubber.

They're 57mm offset - there was a series of the Carrerra III wheels made with mismatching stampings on the inner and outer.
The Carrerra III was only made with the ET57 fronts, per the factory parts manual. Sets with the mistake number on the inside crop up from time to time. e.g.:

Measured ET (offset) = 59.5 mm (+/-) & SOLD!
Hilton, Thank you for those links to similarly mismatched markings - that is what I was hoping to hear about!
Indeed, I measured the 8x18 fronts today and found that the face markings are more accurate. Using the crude tools of a straight looking piece of wood, a metal metric ruler, a wooden ruler in inches, and an old set of eyeballs, I came up with the following measurements:
A. Total actual rim width = 225 mm (metal ruler)
(= 8.9 inches using 25.4 conversion factor)
(Width of rim measured between tire rest points (inner bead) = 8 inches using wooden ruler)
B. Rear Spacing = 172 mm
(using piece of wood across inboard flange, metal ruler to mounting pad)
C. Calculated ET using A and B above and centerline@112.5 mm = 59.5 mm
Considering my crude tools, this is pretty darn close to the "57" indicated on the raised lettering indicated on the face of the front wheels!
According to the threads in the links, several of the BBS wheels had this discrepancy where the markings on the backside of the spokes had an incorrect 37, before they fixed the problem!
I guess this makes these wheels more RARE! They are now SOLD! Thank you for everyone's interest, good wishes, and information!
