Default What does not work on your car?

I keep a list of things that do not work, or stop working on my car, or there are problems with the way that they work.

Right now my washers for the windshield have gotten stopped up again, they have been blown out a couple of times, but on a black car in the south, it will be problems that will continue I am sure.

I am going too replace the check valves and filters to see if that helps them to last longer between blowing the dried up crud out of them.

My head lamp washers do not work, or I do not know how to activate them, really don't care about that one.

My cruise control does not work as well as I would like, it has about a 4-5 MPH variation in speeds and always drops 2-3 MPH in speed when set.
I did put a rebuilt module in it, at least that made it work, the vacuum system is sound.

The pod lights are not as bright as I would like, for the standard reasons I am sure, it does have a new dimmer switch in it.

The door locks have locked by them self four times, weird.

One of the lumbar supports is not right, not sure why, but you can hear the motor try to move, must be jammed some place or the motor is weak.

The bulb is gone from the hood light, my choice.

That is the list of things on my car that does not work the way it should have when new.

What is wrong with your car that you would like to repair?

Or is there any thing that needs to be done now to bring the services up to date?
Like a timing belt service or fluid changes, hoses, etc?

On that side of mine, I am replacing the fuel hoses at the rear after reading of the one burning a few weeks ago.

When I got this car the list was at least five pages long of things that needed work, just simple one line things that stated a problem, like
No ebrake
Dim left tail light
fuel lines, etc

I had five pages of this kind of stuff and it took four years to get it all done, before I could even think about mods.

The thread about buying the wrong car made me wonder if any cars out there have zero issues.

Mine has gotten to that point several times, then I drive it.

My CD player only works after it has warmed up. It's odd really. Other than that everything works beautifully!

My windshield & headlamp washers do not work. I have not looked into the problem. The rear hatch opener doesn't work either as it does run but does not release the hatch. I guess it needs a new plastic insert?

The one thing I want to fix is the side mirrors, I opened and cleaned the switch but nothing is moving after assembly, zero response, dont want to buy a new switch just find out the problem is something else.

I also have to change some stuff for the AC system, fix the power steering reservoir leak, change the loud screaming fuel pump, and change the break pads, and some intake stuff; center flapy does not seem to work, could be because of the missing head bolt thats supposed to keep it open so it wont get stuck closed.

GT:Power mirror memory.
Hasn't worked since I've had the car (10+ years).
S4:Too long of a list, but it will get shorter soon (hopefully).

One thing less everytime I get a chance to work on the thing which is not often these days.

I just hope I get to fix / service a few things before it gets replaced by three others......lol

Not to many 15-32 year old cars that don't need something.

I have a couple of issues I'm working on.

1. My passenger side window switch is picky going down.
2. Sunroof switch is picky opening.
Both of those should be fixed with the new switch option coming soon.
3. My drivers door lock has started to become notchy if that's the right word. Key doesn't go in as smooth as it should and is stiff turning.
4. I have bought 4 tail lamp lenses now and none of them look as good as I would like.
5. Need to replace the diff. cover gasket
6. Continue process of replacing all old rubber parts for new.

That's the short list. Long list involves making a dent in the pile of parts on the shelf in the garage.

Wish I had a good story on this, BUT

The only thing that didn't work right in the last 20 some odd years was the speedo, twice. The first time was the printed circuit; the second was when I replaced the tranny due to leaks. (Not sure if that would count as a 3rd problem, car still drove fine) Turned out the rebuilder had put the wrong magnetic carrier in the diff.

Jim Bailey came to the rescue on that one with the answer to change the diff cover.

I'm sure other things would have gone wrong, but I randomly replace parts whenever I happen to pick up newer parts. And I always inspect and clean the immediate area that I happen to be in, especially electrical connections.

Doing the "While You're In There" stuff goes a long way in avoiding problems.

Also, throughout the years the car has been increasingly modified, which may have eliminated many potential problem areas.

Of all the cars that I have owned, it is the most reliable out of all of them.

A/C
Cruise control
Headlamp washers (don't care about that enough to troubleshoot)

WOW! I just realized what a short list that is!

Headlamp washers do not work.
Passenger side hatch release does not work. (Driver's side works.)
HVAC blows slightly warm (changed heater valve, which helped a lot.)
Windshield wipers are a little slow.
Central locking doesn't work on driver's side.

Not many things left that simply don't work, but it's taken a long time to reduce the list to just these few. It does get somewhat disheartening when the list starts getting longer again.

Headlight adjusters - since they are hydraulic probably impractical to fix, although I did consider converting the to later electric adjusters a few years ago
Rear hatch release - even though I've fitted a new insert it stopped working again shortly afterwards
High intensity washer - recently stopped working completely, and needs a new one way valve as well
Number plate lamp - which is a test certificate fail, so I have to fix that soon
Door jam lamps - considered adding them to my 928Intl order, but was too mean
Passenger seat adjust button - it takes a lot of patience to move the seat backwards, but not so much it's prompted me to try to fix it
Hard fuel lines - not sure where to start, at least the front of the car has enough leaks restrict the corrosion to the rear

There's alot of little things left to sort out.

Headlamp and windsheild washer (windshield intensive washer works)
Central lock button
Door ajar lamps (cleaned, just need LED)
Some pod gauge bulbs (my fault, didn't solder when I repkaced all of them)
Driving lights (haven't even started to figure out, other than replaced switch)
Driver seat (memory module crapped out)
AC (comp. pump leaking)
Etc,

Check out my sig for Perl Blog for extensive list
