Default 1979 after market radio install options

Have one last hole to plug in the dash. Bought a fusion Ipod dock at Walmart for $48. Seems it will not fit in the factory radio dash opening (too wide).

I understand that the dash center trim ring is hard to come by so I don't want to cut it up.

What have other OB owners done to accomdate today's standard off the self audio head unit sizes?

For a modern standard form factor the only option is to not install it in the dash. Don't know if it would install under a seat but it might. With most stereos coming with remotes that might be a viable option. I think most dash's have been cut a bit to fit. Mine was like that when I bought it and didn't even realize it until I started talking to 928 Intl about finding an original Blaupunkt (just to have it). Jim asked if my existing dash was already cut, I went out and checked... sure enough.

Hmm, maybe on the parcel shelf? I don't know if any '79's came with them on the driver's side, but I've seen them in later models.

Jim, I have an older radio that is really nice just sitting on my shelf in the garage and you can HAVE IT! It has a cassette deck which is nice because you can use those adapters to plug your ipod in through the headphone jack... (I use that on my '92 actually w/ its stock radio...and my '94 come to think of it). I think it is a pretty nice Alpine head unit and I think I even have some speakers in the box too you are welcome to have.

I know of a company that takes old radios and puts modern stuff inside them, I can find some info on them if you want, they have remote setups also.
