Default New windshield, what a difference!

I just had my windshield replaced on my '87 s4, as the old one was badly pitted. I did it through insurance so the deductible was only $200 (without penalty via premiums), and it is the correct Sigla glass. The difference is like night and day! I have the sun coming at me to and from work, so this ought to be MUCH safer.

^ + about 1000 - we talk about a lot of improvements here, but this one is relatively unsung. New windshield = safer and a lot more pleasant to drive, if the old one was heavily pitted or sandblasted. Lot of bang for the buck, IMHO.

I really need to do this on the 993. The factory glass is so soft; at dusk it's like trying to see through the plexi on my sandblast cabinet.

I wish I has done it when I lived in Florida. There it was (at the time) required that insurance do the first windshield for free.

I do this on all my cars at the insurance permitted intervals at which they will cover it. From a safety standpoint, it's a no brainer - there is one corner on my drive home that at certain times of year (sun angle) where there is zero visibility if the window is heavily pitted. With a zero glass deductible I don't hesitate.

Good thought to post this!

Gotta love that the antenna windshield is a dealer only item - no chinese glass here!

Is the non-antenna windshield available anymore? Tried twice to get it thru the insurance company, both times they showed up with the built-in antenna, had them put it in anyways, I couldn't drive around with the crack anymore! Receipt said something like $1200 installed, good thing I had glass coverage.

Funny, They first showed with a non-antenna and I sent it back. All the glass places said the antenna was an OEM only, and would cost $1200. I believe that the non-antenna windshields are made by brinks, ppg, and some chinese company (which I have read is wavy).

Sorry, Malcom, I did not do the install myself; It was done by safelite.

The new glass I just got is made by Pilkington in Findland, no antenna but does have the shading.

I'm sorry, it's pilkington that I was thinking of, not brinks.
