Field Week at Porsche Dealership
#17
The younger techs at the dealership think it's funny that I am a 928 guy, they don't understand it. Either way, it was a fun week, got some experience, learned some stuff, got some tips. The senior tech recommended Wurth surface sealer (think thats the name, orange goop). Said to spread it thin on the cork gaskets and bolts. Supposed to work wonders on cam carrier caps, etc.
Today was a good end to the week, took a drive in a Cayman S which had alot of work done to it (motor + exhaust work, wheels, radar jammer, roll cage, 6pt harness, suspension work, aftermarket GT3 front bumper, GT badge on hatch). FUN CAR! Not the fastest thing out there, but I'm sold! Love the engine right behind the seat, really fun driving experience. Then we pulled the Cayman onto a lift and installed a Brembo brake upgrade kit on it for the owner - ~$7,000 worth of parts, 6-piston calipers all 4 corners, HUGE rotors (14" fronts?), and Pagid racing pads all around. Didn't have time to bleed the system so we weren't able to drive it afterward.

If they would have made a lightweight 928 with a turbo, it would have absolutely smoked any 911 of the same year.
I really want a Cayman S.

Cool thing about the Cayman S is the stability management I have had students over cook it into a corner I am thinking no way we are going to make it....PSM kicks in and snick ,snick the car navigates the corner Push the button to turn it off and all kinds of interesting things happen....

My favorite lap of all time on Top Gear is the Caterham 7 CSR 260. Not even ABS.

That Cayman was really fun! I can't imagine what it will be like with the Brembos all around. Apparently the Cayman's owner installed the same brake package on another car, and liked it so much that he decided to put it on this car as well. And boy, did that car turn heads on the road! I have to have one!
