Best fuses
I recently did a CE panel clean up and replaced all my fuses with new. What I thought I was buying from autozone or wherever (Buss brand), are complete crap. Plastic barrels (I believe) and metal strips so soft they almost tear completely off when installing.
I hope these aren't the only game in town for this style fuse. Are the ones stocked by our friendly 928 sources a different (higher quality) brand?
Alternately, does anyone know what would be a direct fit in the glass tube style? Obviously the chain auto parts stores don't have enough in the right amperages to replace all of them.
This is frustrating because I finally fixed my no-start problem after over 2 years! Turns out it was a relay I didn't know existed (I can't find the thread that tipped me to that to thank whoever it was).
But now when it is running and I turn on the lights the headlights pop up maybe a quarter of the way, light up, and stop. I get none of the associated interior lights with the headlight switch in either position, but I do hear a hell of a clicking noise from the CE panel (which sounds like a relay, not a fuse, admittedly.)
I apologize, I guess this is two topics.

We just went through this yesterday at a local shop I was assisting.
Buss fuses do not fit. Too long.
If you can wait a couple days, get them from our suppliers.
They will be similar, but won't tear-up during install.
I insert them with needlenose pliers while lifting the upper tab a bit with the other hand, trying not to twist them much except to seat them well.
Congrats on the starting.
Headlight circuit is real complex to me. My goal during 2011 is to understand it. Costly relay normally solves it.

I have a few of the glass fuses in my car and they fit perfectly. I want to cahnge all of mine to glass but have not been able to find them local to me as of yet. I had the same issue with the aftermarket OEM style not fitting. I suppose you could always go to a junk yard and scrounge through the euro cars for fuses.

84 I think is still the old ceramic boats, VW style, so I looked on ebay and bought a good German brand the VW people seem to like. These look "like" the ones I bought.
