The fittings to the compressor are the same, so they'll connect right up. Your 1990 had the 10PA20C which is the same compressor the GTS's had until the end.

Earlier years had the 6E171 compressor, which requires different fittings.

Hilton,
I am going to be very brave here and disagree with you.
The 90 to 92 (mid year 93 in the States) R12 cars had totally different end connections on the hoses at the compessor end to the later R134a 93 to 95.
The later hoses are very expensive and even may be NLA.
Sits back squirming in his seat.

You made me go and check PET :P

The hoses are the same..

From the S4 1987-1991 catalogue:
Clubsport/SE, and 1990-: 928 573 098 06 "hose line NW 13"
Clubsport/SE, and 1990-: 928 573 097 09 "refrigerant line NW 10"
(note - clubsports and SE's have the 10PA20C from '88, as part of their weight savings)

The GTS catalogue lists the same hoses and revision numbers for all years of GTS.

I'm looking at the RoW PET pdf catalogues (don't have PET7 installed at the moment.. just changed to 64-bit windows and PET7 isn't playing ball).

I suspect you're thinking of the 1989 and earlier hose connections, which are radically different, to fit the heavier 6E171 compressor?

I know the hard line configuration on the GTS is different - as they moved the low-side port around, but the flexible lines are the same from 1990-1995 according to PET.

Hilton,
The end connections on the earlier pre 92 cars are screw nut connections whereas the later 93 plus cars are a block and bolt connection.

Nope, I'm still going to argue

The PET pictures aren't reliable - the screw nut one shown in your pics is the 6E171 compressor fitting. The 10PA20C's have the block fitting. Remember, the PET diagram for 1991 (your "92 AC.pdf file uses 1991 diagrams) is actually the 1987-1991 catalogue, so they made the pictures before they'd started using the 10PA20C.

Check the part numbers for items 29 and 31 in your "92 AC.pdf" file - in my RoW catalogues, the part numbers for the soft-line hoses to the compressor are identical for all years from 1990-1995 for the hose - the fittings are determined by the compressor top-plates, which I'm 99% sure remained the same for all years of use for the respective compressor on the 928. Or you can do a parts-usage lookup in PET7 (damn I need to figure out why my 64-bit won't run PET7) on these: 928 573 098 06, and 928 573 097 09

Crap, I should remember but I don't. I should have pics of both 90 + 93 compressor and hose connections at home.

90+ hoses are 928 573 098 06 & 928 573 097 09
93+ hose are 928 573 098 09 & 928 573 097 09

928 573 098 06 supercedes to the 928 573 098 09.

I conceed 8>)

Whats sick is that I have a 10PA20C compressor in the garage, and 3 928's which all came with 6E171's

One of my 928's came with the 10PA20C in a box, and no compressor mounted, as it had the hoses for a 6E171.. so I went through the "which pipes do I need" thing already.

I sold the spare 6E171 and hoses to a local who wanted to get them rebuilt because he thought someone had upgraded his car incorrectly to the later one. Turned out his later 10PA20C compressor was original to his '88, because SE's got the Clubsport option compressor to save weight

Yup, the 10PA20C has a large block connection. A block with two smaller block connections is bolted to this with four allen bolts. The hoses connect via block/bolt connections on the front and rear. My '91 is this way. It's still pretty fresh because I had to change that damn large block gasket because it was leaking refrigerant and one of the allen bolts stripped (of course). But can you believe that NAPA had the gasket in their main warehouse location
