I see there are two parts numbers for fuel senders, on for 78-88 and another for 89+.
The sender on my 79 is bad, and I had a used replacement that I put in. I tested it outside the tank by connecting, and tipping it back and forth and watching the fuel gauge on the dash move from full to empty. I then filled the tank full, but the gauge only reads 1/2 tank.

Is it possible that I have the wrong sender? Are they interchangeable?
