In my never ending quest to figure out why my car (82 5spd) won't start I ran across a thread about the dsitrbutor green wire and the wonderful issues it can create.
So I took a look for it, but could not find it at first. So knowing that it started on the side of the distributor I found it's original but it was a tan wire which threw me until I disconnected it from the distr and cleaned the connector and wiped it with a rag and it turned green. The insulator was cracked and had some exposed wires the connector was clean and corrosion free.
Looks like something else to replace.
I traced the wire back across the top of the engine over towards the 14 pin connector. Then I noticed the next bad someone at some point had spliced the wire into the wiring harness by the 14 pin conn. I took of the electircal tape to see how bad it was. The person actually did a decent job of the splice used solder and everything.
So not sure why the splice and not just swap it out at the connetor on the not distrib end lazy I guess.
The green wire disapears into the main wire harness shrink wrap that runs along the passenger side fender from the 14 pin towards the firewall.
In looking at the picture of the green wire at various mail order compaines I noticed that both ends have connectors. Where does the non-ditrib end plug in?
Is it a giant pain in the A$$ to do it right and that is why someone took the short cut?
Hoping someone can give me some insight inot this latest mess.

the green wire is about 85.00 .
please post pictures so you can get a better answer to your question ,
a detail picture of the termination area by the fender is important,
as you may have to wire in a new connector on the car side of the harness

Thanks for the photo.
There must have been a failure of some kind on the connector and it was just deleted.
I have ordered a new green wire and I guess I am just going to have to splice it in again.

The green wire is a shielded cable with the shield used as 1/2 the circuit. The pulse from the hall generator is a very small signal and easily gets lost or false input from electrical interference. You might try to find the harness connector from another car rather than start cutting up the green wire....

As JB said dont cut up the new green wire, you will be back at square one.
Figure out a way to repair the car side of the harness ,or replace the harness.
928INTL would be a good place to shop for a used harness as they might have one for half price

There was a batch of "green wires" from Porsche parts that were **** about. the previous owner may have cut off the connector to rectify. I had the same problem and modified the connector to reverse the terminals.
