Thanks to you reminding me of this thread (and needing to get my wipers working anyhow) I've just ordered a pair of ceramic hybrid bearings, and will be installing one soon.
Here's to hoping that I don't shatter the ***** while doing so, but it comes with a spare if I do!
edit:
Here is the part that I ordered, if anyone is interested.

please post your results. is the idea behind the ceramic bearing that high speed will run faster, or another reason?

Not having any metal ***** in the bearing, they can't rust. The races still might if the seals get compromised, but it's one less failure point, and they weren't that much more expensive than a decent quality all metal bearing.
I won't be able to give any evaluation of them being faster or not as mine are not working at all, since this car had been neglected and stored outside for ~10 years before I was saved it from a scrapper friend before he got around to it.

I have buggered yup the set screw, now what? the softness of the plastic head gave way when trying to remove. (I know I can just buy another, but this one can be fixed)
what exactly does that screw do, and can I replace it with something else? as per Porken, it appears it needs to be removed in order to drive out the armature? what is it plastic?

Didn't do much difference
I tried the ceramic bearing about 2 years ago (forgot to post that here woops) and it didn't do much of a difference. Maybe its more quiet, but i felt no difference in wiper speed.

The speed is only changed by the angle of the brushes other than the 2 at 180degrees. My wiper motor is well over to the car's RHS, which is not as shown in PET? Hopefully that will make removal easier when the time comes?

1. Anyone have the link/write up on the windshield wiper motor repair instructions? It looks like that website page is no longer.
2. My wipers move about 1/4 inch up and down so hopefully the motor + bearing are good. Short of the wiper motor refurbishment, if anyone has any thoughts why the wipers aren't sweeping all the way across the windshield it would be much appreciated.
