I had a BLAST driving my stock 88 S4 automatic on track...I think I took it out 6 times....

Just watch your oil pressure!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On street tires with good oil you should be fine....it takes a few DE's to really start pushing the car to the point the oil pressure becomes an issue!

Bilsteins are a great upgrade.......I ran stock suspension with about 90k in my 88....while I thought it handled fine...it was not as crisp as other street 928's with bilsteins and upgraded springs.... For a dual sport 928 that is mostly on the street I would run bilsteins on stock springs... I think my peak G forces was in the 1.15g range....

also make sure you don't run low on transmission fluid....if the transmissions are kept full of fluid and reasonably cool they will last about forever!

That's two reminders on transmission fluid. Duly noted.

Brian,

That is what happened to mine...tranny fluid level was fine, but it got WAY to hot! No telling why of if it was just the fact that I was pushing the car so hard for so many miles on the same fluid. Probably the latter. I never changed the fluid and went from Green all the way to instructor and racer on it! Bad idea!

I NEVER have had an oil pressure problem though. Even in the long sweeping fast turns in my car... Not saying it can't happen, but all 928's burn through some oil when pushed hard on track and I let mine get WAY to low one time, so Ken, I would check the oil every other session till you get a really good handle on oil use.

Be cool and keep the rubber side to the road!

Disappointingly, out of roughly 200 Porsche's there, I was the only 928. But there were some gorgeous cars!
I am sorry that I wasn't there. VIR is my favorite track.

Dell is terriffic. You got a great assignment there.

I plan to get out there with Carolinas PCA next season. Glad to hear you had a positive experience!

Congratulations! 120MPH + in a 928 can only be described as blissfull.
Watch your footing its a slippery slope but a heck of a lot of fun

Funny thing is I see statements like:
"The 928 is happy cruising on the autobahn at 120mph all day long" ( I've also seen it as 150mph)
Sorry, I can't imaging cruising at that speed for a long period of time. The car may be fine, but my nerves would be shattered.

Ken,

I was gonna ask if I had run into you at one of the last PCA get-togethers I attended. But, I think I was thinking of a shorter guy!

Sounds like that Cary/Apex thing in the mornings might be fun! I have a hard time meeting at Brier Creek, it's too damn early and I live an HOUR+ away.

Brier Creek is a nice gathering, good people and lotsa nice cars.
But, like you, its much farther away for me. The Apex group are great guys, and its right around the corner.

Looks like it was fantastic Ken... If you go back in the spring, I'm there with you.

Are you going to be at WZ on Saturday? Pump is back in... Should we show up early? :-)

Ken - how long were your driving sessions and how did your brakes hold up. I've had my 84S (similar to yours - bone stock, good fluids, pads and rotors) at two track days in Gainesville where we usually run short sessions (about 7 or 8 minutes) and my brakes were fine. But on longer sessions I get some noticeable fade. I'm contemplating S4 brakes or biting the bullet on GTS brakes if it's really necessary. How were yours?

Go GTS if you are going to take the time---bigger is better in brakes.
