Hi All,
I have been looking at replacing one or two possibly faulty sensors on my 85my 16v Euro S2 and found some "interesting" results
like take the Crank Position Sensor for example - for my car the cheapest i am quoted (so far) is £98 GBP, yet a quick search through the bosch parts lists and i see the same part is listed for a Volvo 740 of all things, a search on this finds a price of £29.32 for an aftermarket equivelant thats not shown on the website 928
similarly the Temp2 sensor - quoted £39.99,GBP yet again listed for Volvos where an aftermarkey equivelent can be had for £13.57GBP
Does anyone else know of 928 parts like this listed for other makes/models that show a price difference???
I would be interested to do some research on the MAF for example - since its the hot wire element that goes faulty, i wonder what other cars that is used on? Obviously the part number, which relate to the WHOLE unit would be different, but the sensor itself is in my view likely to be the same with a lot of the LH/EZK equipped cars of the era - does anyone know/have suggestions?
i suspect if i root around i might be able to find the sensor in another vehicle. Would anyone know if the sensor element itself has a seperate BOSCH part number that i can start the "chase"?
it would be interesting to hear your comments............................

MAF was used in BMW M535i around 87 vintage but not likely to be any cheaper - Just got to www.jdsporsche.com for MAFs.
IIRC, ISV was used used in a Rolls of the same era - again unlikely to be cheaper.

944 shares the CPS & distributor cap & coil. (cps & coil also fit the 32V cars)
Also, the wiper motor if you switch wires around a bit.
And a bunch of connectors and switches.

You mention "aftermarket parts" - are these Bosch manufacture ? If not, then be careful.
Even if you an obtain a MAF sensor assembly then your MAF still won't be in spec becaue each MAF is individually calibrated to each sensor as the tolerances required are very tight - better than 1%.

Many parts now have generic cheap replacements. Some parts that are advertised to fit, sort of fit, and sort of work, so if you don't know exactly what the part is and does, you may pay dearly for the lack of knowledge. Something like a $15 vs $30 temp II sensor I don't think I want to be the guinea pig on.
That said there are some parts many of use from cheaper sources. Generally out of respect for vendors that support the forums we don't discuss the details. Do some searches and they are not hard to find.

Get your ISV at AutoZone. Just be sure to check the price online (order online too) using 90210 as the zip code. They price it differently (not the shipping either) depending on where you are in the country. Then when you order it put in your real shipping address. Price stays the same.

Remember bosche still owns all the rights to fuel injection. all fuel injection parts from all car companies are made with permission and licence from bosche makes me wonder if any US domestic cars have the same internal parts thet might be gutted and replaced into the 928 shells just my two cents worth
