Default 87 5SPD- WTB part for radiator flap actuator.

What is the part number for the rod (in photo) that opens and closes the radiator flaps? Mine is missing. Any test procedure to test actuator motor?

Thanks

Charles

The flaps were deleted by Porsche in the later model years and subsequently by owners.

Theres probably many flap assemblies sitting in garages and may be willing to sell/trade parts.

I'd take it out, put it in a box and if you sell the car pass it along to them so they can fix and reinstall if they want to. As noted Porsche deleted this in '90!

Why did they delete it?

I have one of those sitting about 10 feet away. It's yours for the cost of first class shipping if you would like it. Send me an email (below).

I think it was set up for colder climates where, at warmup, freezing cold air is counter-productive to the car's warmup cycle - where the flap is closed.

As the car reaches operating temp, the flaps open.

If it necessary in our climate, Charles? Maybe not necessary but beneficial if you chose to drive you 928 year round.

My warming flap worked fine but I disabled it in the open position. Problem is if it doesn't open the car can overheat. I drive mine in fairly cold weather; I've never owned a car that warms up and produces heat as fast as my shark and that's with the flaps always open. I did keep the parts in case I ever want to go back which doesn't seem likely. YMMV

I may need the motor too. This car spent many years in Alaska and Washington state. It may have worn out.
I plan on taking it to Canada and Fargo ND one day, so I better keep it. Or carry a cardboard template in the boot.

Thanks Jim

If it were in fact to cold to warm the cars up properly then I doubt they would have deleted it in later models... I think they figured out it was pretty pointless. Did little for aero drag (which is what they touted it for initially anyway) and just caused more problems than it solved and added one more level of complexity to the car. It would have never been deleted if it were REALLY needed...

Yeah, like those oil drain holes in the GTS pistons.

Oh wait, bad example.

Um.. like those circlips on the driveshaft that prevented thrust bearing failure.

The 928 usually runs too hot than too cold. Mine is disable in the open position. Someday I will go in and take the flaps out.

My car was imported as a Canadian car and has lived over the North border all its life........the flaps are superfluous to requirements as are all the controls.

So is the cardboard.............
