Greg, that RUF was scary fast. I didn't like the gearbox tho. What a blast to drive however. I still prefer the shark.

I will add to what others have already said...that is a totally awesome car you have there. I get a lot of favorable comments on the color of my 930 too. The Minerva Blue is really striking.
That 928 would look really sweet parked next to my 930 (hint...hint, though I'm sure you don't want to sell I can't fault you for that).
Appreciate all comments thus far. I would like to buy from an enthusiast, and I can be patient and wait for the right opportunity (I do have cash and can move quickly when the right opportunity presents itself). As stated before, I would like to hook up with a few owners in the greater NYC metro area and try to sample a few so as to develop some first hand knowledge of what a 'good 928' feels like.

Try getting ahold of Wayne in NYC (wg928 on this list), he has a couple of sharks and is a great guy - would maybe let you try one of his.

That is real tempting sir.
I agree...mickster, would you mind passing along contact info for that '83. Trumbull is near enough for me to easily go have a look.

Still waiting on the ebay bidder to finalize the transaction on my car, if he can't get the finances in order it may be available again. $34,900.00 in case you're wondering.

Why do people bid on things they can't afford?! How freaking frustrating! If you are not sitting on the cash or at least have your finances COMPLETELY lined up then, DON'T BID ON THE ITEM! OMG!

It had a RUF badge on the back of it, I think the two stunning girls thought I was some kind of stalker in a red Corvette, I manged to keep them in sight until we got to the south side of Atlanta, once on the big road, I85 going south, they just flat out ran me, I ran out of courage long before I ran out of power.
Sad really.

A bit frustrating but I still think he will come through. I still have his deposit and I think he's just having trouble using the standard financing available for most cars. I think he's pulling funds from other sources now which is exactly what I had to do when I bought my first "old car".

If the OP is coming from a 930 turbo, then my advice to him would to get either a Euro-S car or a 85-up 32V.
I would bet that any US car below 1985 would feel like a dog to him.
I haven't been in many S4's, but the ones I have been in make me appreciate the lower gearing of my OB. I mean, it's not like we live on the Autobahn (unfortunately).

I still have not sat in, let alone driven, a 928. I'm spending a lot of time surfing the internet, and reading. Also had Thanksgiving travel mixed in (visiting family in Seattle). Got Brian Long's 928 book, which is expensive but full of interesting info and fantastic pictures.
I have a couple of leads on cars at this point, I just need to go see them. There is nothing in my immediate vicinity that I am interested in buying, so I will need to travel around a bit. There is an early 32v 5 speed car (an '86, I think) that is in Great Neck Long Island at a used car dealer. The car is cheap, but it appears neglected in the photos, so it will only be worse in person.
I'm still trying to get a feel for pricing too. I've got leads on a few really nice cars with fully up to date maintenance, but the prices are closer to 30k, and these are garage queen candidate cars. I can afford this, but not sure I want to. My fear is that if I purchase such a car, I will be afraid to drive it.
Here is an example of a lower priced car that has my interest. This is a hike for me to go kick tires, but would be doable...comments?

I think the ideal car for me is one that will have fully up to date and meticulous maintenance, but shows some patina. That way, I won't feel bad if I stuff my 85lb Rottweiler mix-mutt in the back to go for a cruise every so often.
