Default Intake Refresh and Fuel Lines

Hi All,

I have tried a few searches and cant seem to come up with the right answer (user error perhaps?)
Does anyone know the lengths and diameters of the various pipes needed to replace all the vacuum lines and fuel lines on a Euro 928S2 1985MY (last of the 16v's)
What i would liek to do is just go out, buy all the lengths of pipes and set about replacing it all one by one - but i cant seem t find info on the pipes i need - can anyone help with this? -i think it might be a useful list for all 928 newbies like me

thanks in advance

Roger @ 928s R Us sells a fuel line replacement kit that will include the correct specification fuel hose for fuel injection systems along with the proper clamps that don't cut into the hose when tightened.

I also had the same problem and was frustrated when I could not get the lines I wanted without being told that I had to send my lines in to be replaced, which was not an option.
I wanted the nice anodized ends on some nice looking hose.
I checked quite a few hose companies and also e-mailed Roger.

I finally decided to go with a company that could show me what I was getting before I had to buy.
They are more money but it solved a few problems that the others did not.

PM me if you want to know more.

Thanks all, I will check out your leads -
I kinda thought someone would know the answer - ie buy 3 metres of this diameter and 2 metres of that etc - a kinda shopping list of hoses. Maybe i will try to put a list together as i go, maybe someone else would find it useful too
Thanks

Stewart... I thought you had a good question. I don't have a complete answer yet and it may vary some on model year but anyway, here are some notes that I copied out of RL when I was searching for fuel line info... they might at least provide a starting point... Bruce
==================
You need to get Fuel Injection hose rated at 30R9, sounds like you are getting regular 30R7 hose and it NOT acceptable for fuel injection systems (most hoses like that are actually labeled "Not for Fuel Injection"

Go to Advance Auto parts and ask for part #P1503 . IF you ask for 30R9 hose they will probably look at you funny.

It's 12mm. The locally available 1/2" lines are too big and the 3/8" lines are too small.
On my 83, the pump inlet is 12mm, the tank outlet is 14mm.
Note that there are two different clamp sizes, 14mm for the smaller hose and 15mm for the larger hose.

* Clamps Needed:
o 4ea. 14mm
o 6ea. 15mm
* Engine Bay Hoses:
o Large Diameter: 9"
o Small Diameter: 10"
* Rear Hoses:
o Rear: Large Diameter, 27.5"
o Mid: Large Diameter, 27"
o Front: Small diameter, 9.5"

All the fittings are reusable - replace with EFI hose - 5/16th ID.
Make sure you use SAE30R9 hose.

When I redid my fuel lines last year with the help of Jim Morton and Bill Ball, Tim Murphy had a lead
on AN to metric fittings, since he uses them in his supercharger kit. They are on page 87 of this
catalog:http://www.kinsler.com/072707/Cat31_...LR_CanCopy.pdf

If you replace the fuel line with EFI hose 5/16" is the size.
8mm is .315" & 5/16" is .312" very little difference.

Thanks Bruce - Thats more like what i was hoping for!
Its a good start for my 1985 Euro model. All i need to do now is find the same for the vacuum lines

I have a good supplier here in the UK for pretty much any type of hose i like from micro bore silicon hosing to 3inch ID hydrolic hoses and everything inbetween so hopefully they can supply me

I will keep you all posted

Why not openly share this info with the rest of us for posterity's sake?

Hi Gary,

Hopefully once i get the whole list together i will post the complete results for all, including (where possible) suppliers of the various materials.
Refresh of the intake system (Fuel and Vacuum lines etc) seems to be a fairly common thing for 928's and the eventual list should prove useful to fellow enthusiasts looking to do the work themselves with the minimum fuss/outlays
kind regards
Stewart

Or, you might be missing the point of supporting the vendors who sponsor this site, who have taken the time to research the best options, at the best prices for these items.

oh i'm sorry - i didnt realise i wasnt allowed to ask questions or do work that might be available from a vendor! - Members also support this site by means of subscriptions and i think that allows me to ask questions, if you disagree i am sorry but i am not about to pay a vendor in excess of $100 plus international shipping for parts i can buy myself for less than £20GBP here in the UK. I cant be the only one with this viewpoint -I was once quoted in excess of $350 to ship a part costing less than $150, a $500 bill, guess what? i got the dimensions and fabricated the part myself instead.

To me, part of the fun of the 928 is doing as much of the work myself as i can, and whilst i could quite easily remove every hose and measure the internal and external diameters, its fairly likely that someone will have already made the measurements and hence the simple question. If others choose to simply pick up the phone and order parts/accessories well thats up to them, and good on them i say, each to their own, but i (or others like me) shouldnt be denied the opportunity to ask questions simply because someone might be selling a particular product. Take the switch panels for example - what a great idea! and wel worth the money, others may choose to stick with the standard switches, and others still may be inspired and choose to replacate their own ****ch panels -should they be denied the opportunity because someone is selling a switch panel on this forum? i think not.

I do, and will continue to support vendors where appropriate but i reserve the right not to where i believe it does not represent good value. Something i believe is everyone's right.
apologies, rant over

From the rules - note, this is in reference to vendors not sponsors...
--------------
Promoting a Vendor: Praise and a recommendation of a vendor by users is encouraged as a service to the community. ...
-------------

PS... I find that I can watch TV only if I have the remote in hand so that I can mute the commercials.

Good info, thanks!
There is a bearing identification thread that goes down the same path and is helpful.
And, with digging here and within the 944 area, I found several references to fuel fittings.
I think its a mistake to assume those sanctioned to advertise here have all the answers.
Most do most of the time, but I've also been disappointed a couple times, especially early-on.
The good suppliers encourage the conversation.

That said, if a good kit of parts has been assembled, I'm often going to buy the kit. Usually its less expensive and a whole lot easier. The real differentiator for the OP here is the shipping cost in this discussion.

Watch that fuel hose. Different cars use different diameters. SAE XYZ from one manufacturer may not have the bending radius as from another. Plus, it costs a fortune at the parts chains for the right hose, at least when I researched it.
