Tried moving the wires in my plug this evening and it didn't quite work for me as planned - typical? With the wires in position 1 & 3 in the Country connector plug my lights still come up and they now light up in position 1?
I also noticed that I don't have the Dip-beam unit - someone must have removed it previously.
So not sure why my88 is acting so strange on this? Any idea's?

Thanks for the description and photo's. I cannot seem to find my "dim-dip" module so guess the last owner may have removed it. Might be why my Headlights don't come on in dip mode.
Like the thought of having my headlights come on in dip mode whilst they are down.....have you got a photo of how this looks on your 89?

New Black MY88 928 S4 Auto starting its transformation and new life
Steve - after I posted the pictures above I had a look in the same place on my '89 (which definitely has the dim-dip module, as it works and I get the low-voltage lights). Its not in the same place - so its possible you do have it, just elsewhere.
My 89 is up on stands at the moment, so I'm loathe to climb inside it to have a look up under the dash or behind the glovebox until its securely on 4-wheels.
A local who has an ex-UK '88 SE posted on the 928uk e-mail list last night saying he'd changed his coding plug and had it now behaving "normally" by world standards including headlight washers.

The coding plug is a 3 pin plug with only twon pins in it and a wire that bridges pins 2 and 3 to enable dim dip (It bridges pins 1 and 2 for non dim dip operation but those of you with non late 87 or 88 cars won't be interested in this anyway) It has p/n 928.607.422.00 and is labelled "Adapter fur codierung"
Removing both control unit and coding adapter results in the lights working normally (like all other 928s) but as Paul mentioned the headlight washers stop working.
Having never seen the WD info about the coding plug before - I must have been asleep - I'm about to change my coding plug to non dim dip mode and plug it back in to see what happens ...... or not.

Coding should be either pins 1/2, or 2/3.
See the bit quoted in my post above by Smiffy for colours of the wires, as I couldn't see numbers on the pins in my '87.

If you can't read the numbers on the plug (I struggled but I knew I started with 2 and 3 bridged so finding 1 was EASY) get back to me or PM me and I'll go look and take a photo - you can relate it to the angles on one side of the plug.
Thanks for all the help from everyone. I eventually managed to sort this with pins 2&3 jumpered in the country code plug by the LH ECU as has been noted here above. First time I tried this the pins moved out of their new position when I plugged it back together so it didn't work. Got the pins to stay put and click into the small holder clip this time and now my lights work like the other model years - stay down in Position I and up in Position II.
I can concentrate on my LED side light upgrade no this weekend.
