I agree on the point of paying it just to get out of the hassle as long as there are no other repercussions. I have called the county attorney on occasion and offered to pay the full fine for the speeding ticket if they would write it for a non moving violation. All they want is the $$ in the end. Has worked for me on many tickets. That's how I have a clean record with no moving violations.
Another thing I use that works very, very well. If you get stopped at night, before the officer is at your door, turn on all of your interior lights and have your hands on the wheel when he comes up. Don't start getting your license and registration out, wait for him to ask for it and then tell him where it is when you go for it. These guys are nervous too, never know who they are going to get when the stop someone.
If you carry a weapon and it is where your registration is, let them know it is there if they can see it when you go for the registration. Sounds no brainer but many cops have told me this happens a lot.

I think the 9 miles over the limit was about right. Part of me is saying not to tempt fate, because if I had been clocked at literally any other time on the trip, it would have been a LOT more than 9 mph over!
Bill Ball was right in back of me and told me afterward that his speedo read 75, which would be only 5 miles over the limit. I sincerely doubt that Bill would want to travel the 1600 miles to testify on my defense, though! Maybe I'll ask him to write an affidavit.
Still not sure if I'm willing to travel 500 miles to fight the ticket. The fee for 1-10 mph over the limit is $160. I will try to contact the court today about the registration.

Dr. Bob-
I am not sure what you are getting at...
My car is registered in California for at least 7 reasons:
1) It is my permanent address (my wife is only STATIONED in Texas).
2) It is cheaper in Cali to register the car.
3) It is smog-exempt in both states while used outside of the Cali (hence the statement of facts).
4) I can keep my vintage yellow-on-blue personalized plate.
5) I don't have to endure a TX safety inspection
6) I don't have to plaster all those gaaawd-awful ugly Texas state stickers all over my windshield (Cali requires one tiny sticker on the rear plate).
7) This is all perfectly legal to do.
Now all you Texas boys don't get too upset... but in THIS case at least one thing is clear...
Yep! California is better!![ducking](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/icon107.gif)
