Nakamichi CD300, 400, or 500?
I've been on the fence for a while to replace my CD player. Nothing wrong with mine but it doesn't have an AUX input for playing an MP3 player. I like(d) the Alpine 103BT because it has blue tooth built in and the required aux in. The problem with the Alpine is it just doesn't go well with the 928 style. Seems the Nak is the best non OEM choice.
So the question is, does the CD300 have Aux in? The websites don't seem to give the details. I'd be happy with the CD 300, but guessing no Aux in. How about the CD400? Aux in? Lastly, the CD500 but can't even tell if that has AUX in. Anyone have info on these?
Anyone with an OB have a Nak? Pictures?

I'm also looking for a new head unit and the CD400 is one of the 3 I'm considering. I've heard the CD500 isn't reliable but the CD400 has a newer loading mechanism which is reliable.

According to their website, the cd400 has aux input, but the cd300 does not. Also, I read a few reviews and some reviewers said the cd400 did not have a subwoofer out. This was not confirmed one way or another on the Nak site.
If you go to nakamichi.com, and to the individual unit specs, you will see Aux In specs under amplifier.

I installed an Nakamichi MB-VI in my 928 and it has 2 auxillary inputs via RCA jacks. One member used those on his car to hook up an MP3 player. No subwoofer output, but the MB-VI does have preamp outputs if you want to bypass the power amp.
Nice thing about the unit is the power amp block disconnects from the back of the reciever/cd unit so you can remotely mount it. Doing so makes the reciever/cd mount flush in the 928's DIN 1 slot.
Hope this helps

Joe can you take a picture of the MB-VI in your dash. This was also on my list of players worth considering.
Also when you installed did you splice or did you have a custom harness made?
I found a Denon that would look awesome in the dash of a 928 but the only problem is that they're no longer available new and they're really rare.

Hi Afshin,
Here is the photo of the install. Nice thing about the Nakamichi MB VI is the 6-CD changer built in, IE no need for external CD changers/wiring etc.
My car had an aftermarket Pioneer CD/Reciever, so when I installed the Nakamichi MB VI I pulled the Pioneer unit and spliced in the wiring for the Nakamichi's prewired plugs/connectors, nothing is hard wired so if I ever have to pull the unit, I just yank it out and unplug it.
It took a couple of hours to do, check and test. Very nice amplifiers, much crisper sounding that the Pioneer unit that the PO had installed.
The trick with the Nakamicki MB-VI unit is to remove the amplifier block off the back, connect it with the extension wiring supplied and mount the player in the 928, then stick the amplifier block underneath on the carpeted transmission tunnel. Don't try to mount it with the amplifier block attached, its just a bit too long. (I tried and thats why it took a couple of hours, until I figured out it wouldnt fit flush with the amp block installed)
Another Rennlister had installed the same unit and he said he got some extension connectors and ran a set of the imputs out to the parcel shelf on the passenger side of the car for connecting his MP3 player to the Nakamichi unit.
I hope this helps.

I'm also interested in replacing my stereo, still the stock tape deck, and wanted to keep it looking stock. I also found the Nak, but the reliability seemed to be an issue with them and they don't play MP3 CD's. I then found this one, not a high end brand, but it has modern day features and an older look to it. They also have a ever more basic looking one, but just a Radio/CD play and not MP3 stuff. http://www.jensenheavyduty.com/jense...dy-stereo.html
