Sounds Good. Wow the intake looks great! The vortech blower is impressive. I want to do that maybe not with this car but one in the future. I'll inquire of the forum any info about that at that time.

I will proceed slowly with the pull. I hope to get it on the stand tonight and begin the restoration of the motor. I'll let the forum know how it goes. I am amazed at the knowledge in this group of people. It is wonderful that they share as they do.

Having some difficulty getting the motor out of the 1986. The car is a manual. Does the clutch need to come off of the flywheel assembly to get the motor out. Following the removal procedures form the work shop manual i downloaded for the internet it does not mention taking the clutch off. With out removing the clutch I cant see how to get the motor free from the clutch housing. It is my first time so maybe I am missing something. I talked to several of the guy at the the 928 parts houses, one said they always drop the drive train out of the bottom and the other said to pull the small spline shaft out of the flywheel clutch and the clutch will drop out. There is not room to pull the spline shaft and the clutch appears to be bolted anyway.

Any insite would be appreciated.

The clutch has to come off the flywheel. Without doing that there is not enough clearance. To make matters worse before attempting to remove the clutch there should be spaced inserted into the pressure plate. These are 3/4 circular washers. They come with a new clutch, but you can make some from wire or by grinding washers.

The procedure is to have someone one push in on the clutch, insert the space and then rotate the flywheel and put in the other two spacers.

After this you can release and slide back the coupler over the torgue shaft and then slide out the pilot shaft. It is a good idea at this point to not have your head or any part of your body under the clutch.

Remove the six bolts holding the pressure place. Placing padding under the area where the clutch can fall. Get up on top of the car and use a big screw driver on the top clutch arm and the clutch will fall out on the ground. I use a piece of foam to catch the clutch.

The fact that you have moved the transmission back you can probably get away without using the shims. Just be careful - the cltuch is heavy and when loose can fall out easily.

If you think getting the clutch out is weird - wait until you get to the procedure to remove the brake booster. Clearances on the 928 are very close and some things only come apart if you follow the correct procedures.
