Can anyone advise if its ok to drive the car to the shop with this condition or should I have it towed there?

I don't see any harm in driving it to a shop. Hope you get it sorted out soon.

I think its also likely to be coil wire corrosion or distributor cap track corrosion. Both will cause stalling and poor running at lower speeds, especially under some load. Much simpler to check this off the list first, before giving a shop an invitation to start pulling the intake apart.

all of the above are good ideas but What about the MAF? This will do it too - especially if its in limp home mode (no signal or reference)

It'll apply a static setting to for idle and WOT. I've just diagnosed my s4 with similar issues to have a bad maf.

Where's it idling when warmed up? if you're in the 1100 to 1300 range. I'd say take a look there.
