is my Blaupunkt finially dead?
I guess it is original to the car (1985 S auto) My Blaupunkt Monterey CDM83 is making a buzzing noise when i play either the radio or cd's. Is it worth fixing or time for a new one?

I'd be interested to know if that was really OE. My '85 auto came with a Monterrey SQR83 (cassette). I googled around trying to find out when the CDM83 was introduced, but no luck. I did find a Phillips site where they claim 1987 as the year they introduced the "first car CD player", but that must really be their first one, since Pioneer quite clearly claims THE world's first car CD player in October of 1984.
Long story short, I wouldn't say it's all that worth repairing unless it was OE and you want to keep the car all original, or unless you REALLY like it. Regardless, some parts may be hard to get for a unit that old.

It's under the cover to the right side of the passenger seat. Depending on MY, there may also be a hatch release **** on that cover.
I installed a small-ish Sony amp in it's place in my car.

Id think that manipulating that *** should let you know if it is a speaker issue or radio issue.
Personally, I get a crackle in my front speakers (may have bad wires or the speakers may be shot - I am not sure), but since I get clear audio from the rear speakers I assume my radio should be working correctly.

There are hand-removable screw/***** on the front and rear ends of it. Remove those two and the cover comes right off, but be careful of the wires for the hatch release, if you have one... they can come loose or touch something and then you'll blow the 15A fuse for interior lighting.
