What's the function of the micro switch part # 36 on the clutch pedal?

I'll hazard a guess and say it won't let the car start unless the clutch is pushed in. All of my manual cars had a micro switch that did this.

Kills the cruise control.

No five-speed 928 has any starting safety devices.

Wally, does it KILL the cruise control, or SUSPEND it.

My 944 has a similar switch that works to suspend throttle control while you change gears. Cruise automatically re-engages when the clutch is fully up again.

It can be *fun* when you go clutch in and coast to a corner while you leisurely change down - full throttle when you go clutch out in a lower gear. Wheeee!!

Suspends it momentarily.

IIRC with the vacuum controlled cruise it releases the vacuum.

Herman, Thanks.

No, the clutch switch is shown in A90.

"Kills" was the wrong term - as Steve and Jon pointed out. I should have added "temporarily" , or otherwise have made it clear that it just prevents engine over-speed while you have the clutch pedal depressed.

No starter lockout? Wow, so you can crank the car in gear and move it. Crazy.

Default And if you do...

The garage door will be toast..she moves!

That's why I had to ask the question.

I just installed one of Porken's clutch pedal travel limiter stops and observed the switch and thought it was meant to prevent the car from starting while in gear.

Thanks to all who have replied.

Happy motoring
