This was actually a really well done and sorted out conversion. Back when I was researching buying my 928 a couple years ago I had always thought about an LS-1 swap. I ran across this car that Black Forest was working on discussed on either PorscheHybrids or one of the LS1 boards.

Long story short it was their first swap into a 928. They charged $12K IIRC not including the engine and they still lost money because of the effort that went into it. Apparently the RH kit for the SBCs left a lot to be desired in terms of fit. I have no idea how good their LS1 packages are. Anyway, the car owner was a friend of the guy that owned BFR. BFR committed to do the swap for $12K but didn’t really know how much work it was going to be. They had done a lot of 944 conversions and figured the 928 would be similar. They were wrong.

As they got into it (actually the son of the the guy that owned BFR did the actual work) they realized it was going to be a bigger effort, but still met the price they had promised. I’ve seen a lot of the photo-documentation that went into building this.

This is a really fair price on this car for someone looking for a well sorted swap that will make decent power, have no problem buying parts at Autozone, and won't deal with any timing belt issues. I'd prefer an LS of course. I love my 16V 84S, but if I were back in the market today, I would consider it.

Here are the four albums that document the swap
