Here's what I was up to back in '77. Sitting on Grandpa's IH 656.

Same one parked right next to the car.

My black '78 # 342 does not have a driver's side door mirror. It was a $95 option.

I REALLY like Bob Ingram, cool to see his CGT listed as the earliest in the US! AMAZING, but I probably shouldn't be to surprised, he did set me up with a private tour of the factory in 2000! Wish I still worked for the company that he and I were both at back then...Oh well...

I think most if not all '78 MY had metal cap.

Curious about your question about tranny mounts. It is safe to say the car will get new tranny mounts. Does PET list something different for early?
Battery box side mount is about double width to give better support for heavy battery.

I read about Greg's -03 rebuild. Curious if anyone got the serial number off it?
Engine and gearbox numbers and casing casting dates are very interesting. They will also tell if part is original or not. All large castings should have date info in them.

For those who have specific questions, I will do my best to respond to them in time. My nephew lives right down the road and is a budding "car guy". He's thrilled about this car. And ask him from time to time to do some research.
See this thread for some specific questions like round door **** style, steering lock position, tacho redline etc.

US model 0016 was made some 6 months later. This means all or at least most cars including maybe 600-700 ROW build before it should have similar features.

Rixter, Good talkin' with ya...
James, Lets go, man!

Lots going on, but nothing really worth mentioning...
Found the PO insalled a radiator cap in place of the gas cap. LOL
Got an early metal one on the way from 928 International. Thanks Mark & Thanks Rob for the tip!

I would love to...the thought of getting in my 92 GTS and just driving all the way out there is really tantalizing!

Sweet! Mark had it out on the 'Sale' table at SF10 and I almost bought it as a spare but then figured it belonged on a car on which it belonged..

Nicole,
do a search on stainless steel gas cap, you'll find plenty of pics
it essentially is the same cap but steel, only on 78 phases out late that year to the red plastic cap... IIRC it was due to potential for electrical conduction/spark problems causing fires (doh!)

Found a pic, and now I do remember seeing it before.
