89 S4 - where does your temp gauge sit?

Same for me, just under the second white line around with the a/c on and in 100 to 110 f heat with standard fans stuck in traffic.
Interestedly with the so called uprated fans the PO installed it would struggle to keep the temp below the red line, I reverted back to OEM fan setup and no problems.

looks normal for my Euro 90 as well...I have the same guage but with numbers above. 40C left - 80C middle -100C red. I agree that the needle appears too far hot compared to other vehicles but should be fine as Borland stated.
40C left - 80C first line - 90C(implied by guage) 2 nd white line - 100C red line

When I first got my car, the thermo sat right in the middle of the two white lines -- exactly where you would think it should sit. After I did the thermo line refresh, replaced the expansion tank, and switched to G-05 I was running at or just above the top white line. I figured that was the new norm since so many people seem to run at that level.
Few months later I had to pull the expansion tank again to change out an ABS cable (a job that looks simple enough, but in the end requires you pull lots of stuff apart to do it properly ). When I pulled the tank, I realized that the short hose from the bottom of the tank was leaking and possibly allowing air into the system. It was the only hose I did not change, and due to its age, it did not mate well with the new tank fitting. It has since been changed - not a fun job.
I have not had a chance to run the car since I found the leak (b/c I am in the process of a TB and Intake refresh), but I can't imagine that a leak in the system would be helping matters much.

I think the begining of the red is 210F or so.....typically the warning goes off about the same time it touches the red zone...sometimes before?
So the 1st line is about 170F, the 2nd is about 195F.... I would say most well running 928's on a hot day with AC will be around the 2nd white line....
