Default driver side door lock trouble

I cant get my key to go all the way in to unlock the door. I can only unlock from the passenger side. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

The WSM gives the lockset extraction procedure and if you search a bit here you will see how to disassemble the lock itself to assess / improve the tumblers.

It would help if you listed MY, etc.

If it's a newer car, with the longer "S" key, it may be that the alarm switch attached to the end of the lock cylinder is loose or damaged. Such a situation would stop the key when it was about 1/4" from all the way in.

As Landseer mentions, the WSM covers removing the lock assembly, but, IIRC, it's mainly just an allen bolt in the jamb side of the door.

Its an 85, bought new by his family.
He's got a disadvantage in that the 928 is highly obscure where he is from, for some reason.
I challenge any of you First-in-Flight folks to find Watsib a mechanic he can trust.

Good point on the alarm part.
Still needs to be disassembled.

Thanks Landseer, Im sorry I forgot to mention its a 1985 S. I will check the lock I have tightened it in the past with the allen bolt. The only WSM I can find online is for the 16v.

Locksets are same. Slight differences in the very early cars.

I've taken a bunch of them apart.

Best might be to pull the offending lock out of the door using WSM or instructions here, then carry it to a regular locksmith to extract the pin that holds it together.

If you can find a real locksmith anymore. I brought my Golf door latch to a "locksmith" because it had a broken spring. The guys there just looked at me... "We SELL and install locks, we don't fix them." A 50 cent spring from ACE hardware fixed it right up.

I'm sure there are some good locksmiths still in business, but I think a lot of them are like the battery changers that call themselves watchmakers.
