Insurance for 3 or more 928's
Excuse my ignorance but how can you guys who own 3,4,5,6,7,8 928's afford the insurance to keep that many cars? I know there is classic car insurance, but if you get caught speeding those companies will drop you like a hotcake.I have normal use insurance for 2 928's and my yearly total is $1500.00 and I'm an older driver at 64 yrs old. Maybe I'm old and poor? P.S. I also have a 1996 Saab 9000 Turbo Aero to add on to my bill. Any insurance ideas?

I do the same on any cars that I own which are worth less than ~$10k. For any minor accidents, I would pay for the damage on my own without involving insurance if possible anyways. Plus, I run 1K deductibles on all of my cars which have full coverage.

I have a 928 and a Saab (see my signature). My insurance bill from Farmers Insurance is about $680 every 6 months ($1360/year). This includes full coverage with $1k deductible on the 928 (with estimated 4k miles/year), and liability and comprehensive on the Saab (my daily driver).
I have never had an accident that involved insurance.
Removing collision from the Porsche insurance would save about $240/year; that's about half of one months' health insurance premium.

Hi: Thanks for the suggestions, maybe my policy isn't so bad have full coverage on both 928's with $1,000 deductible, no collision on Saab(not worth much- 187k miles on it). I know the older you get the worse the insurance bill gets if youre in the 60'sage group.

928man, I presume you are talking about me more than others here since I have EIGHT of these bad boys! Keep in mind the race car is not insured because it is a race car... the other SEVEN street cars ARE insured and I insure them with J.C. Taylor. If I get a ticket I get a lawyer or take defensive driving so I have never had an issue where I might be dropped for something like that. My ANNUAL premium for all SEVEN cars is something on the order of $1700!!! Only a few dollars more than you spend! If you include my (no collision coverage) '96 T-bird insurance (that is my daily driver...which you MUST have for the specialty policies) then my annual premium is still less than $2k!
Insurance rates depend on age, where you live and drive and your past record. My record is clean and my only accident of late was the girl who side swiped me's fault...in fact I can't even remember my last accident that was my fault...maybe '97...
Good luck and give some of the specialty folks a call...you might be surprised. Get a radar detector and learn to REALLY WATCH for cops if you are worried about speeding tickets, or better yet take it to the race track and get it all out of your system there...928's are GREAT fun on the track! I have WAY more track miles on my street cars than on my race car!

928man: Perhaps you can update your profile to include your location, and add your 928 year and model in your signature. This way, we can better relate your questions to your specific situation.

We are running 5 as daily drivers now. Liab, fire & theft, no collision.
Plans are to stock and hold a nose cone, tail cone, front fenders, doors and hood, primed, because eventually one of us will knock a corner off of one.
If yours are showpieces check with Haggerty.

I run a $1k deductible, but without comprehensive you don't get uninsured motorist, and in SoCal thats most like who would be hitting you.
BTW the 928's are cheap, teenage son is expensive.

I'll insure cars that have loans against them but otherwise I self-insure for my own mistakes. The kids get to drive disposable beaters. Everyone is happy!

Location seems to have a lot to do with it. I moved
aprox. 6 miles to a different zip code. My ins. (AAA)
went up $300/yr. (4 cars) because according to them ,
there were more claims in that zip.

The trick with insurance is that what matters most isn't what you pay, but what they pay and how. I really don't want to see my car totaled with a salvage title unless its really totaled.
