I just put the good one from my '88 in to my EURO85 and put a used one that Paul Champagne recovered for me in to my '88... An improvement for BOTH cars!

I tried other handles but prefer the look and feel of the stock shifter T handle. In two years, two stock handles had broken at the bottom where the screws are. As mentioned, new ones are expensive. I inserted a piece of brass tubing into a broken handle, filled the handle around the brass tube with JB Weld and built up the bottom part by wrapping tape around the handle as a form and pouring in the JB Weld. After it cured, I removed the tape, sanded and shaped the base and redrilled the holes. I did not have to remove the leather to repair. The rubber boot hid the repaired area. The repaired handle was 5 years old when I sold my '87 and still solid as a rock like it was made on to the shaft - better than new.
Thanks for this. Mine came apart the first time about 2 years ago after I let my son take the car into a local stereo installer (some of his HS friends in dad's garage I think) who laid on the shift handle installing speakers and broke it. I epoxied it all back together but it only lasted a couple of years. This looks like a much more permanent solution!
Buying JB weld and a selection of brass tubes today...
